We know we weren’t the only ones who were devastated when Disney revealed that Muppets Courtyard would be going away forever at Hollywood Studios. But the more we learn about the new Monsters, Inc. land that will be replacing The Muppets, our hearts heal just a little bit more.
Earlier in June, Disney filed documents that revealed roughly where the show building would be for the new Monsters, Inc. indoor roller coaster that’s coming to this land — but, newly filed documents have now revealed a bit more about what that show building will look like.
Newly filed documents released by the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District reveal a bit more detail about the new Monsters, Inc. land being built at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. While Disney hasn’t confirmed this officially, documents appear to indicate that the filing for “Project L” aligns with the Monstropolis takeover. In the documents, it is noted that “electrical infrastructure is required to facilitate the provision of electric service,” and that Walt Disney Parks and Resorts U.S., Inc. (WDPR) “will design, permit, and construct the portion of the utility project at its sole expense.”
Essentially, the new filings partially outline some electrical work that needs to be done for Project L to come to fruition. We know, we know — super exciting. But, that’s not the exciting part. New maps were included with these documents, and they seem to reveal a bit more detail about the show building for the indoor Monsters, Inc. suspended roller coaster.

We already knew that Disney was expanding into the Cast Member parking lot located behind the land to build this structure, and previously released maps gave us an idea of just how massive this building is going to be — approximately 365 feet by 330 feet, giving it a total size of around 103,000 square feet. But, all we had was an approximate outline of the building. The new maps are faint, but it looks like there is a faint outline — with more detail — of what the show building might look like for the roller coaster.
It’s faintly overlaid on top of the existing Cast Member parking lot, which is a zoomed-in version of this map:
…which matches up with this map of Hollywood Studios from Google. You can see the similar buildings in the bottom right corner of this map and the previous photo:
Since Disney already confirmed the location of the new show building, we’re pretty confident that this is what Project L is referring to.
Keep in mind that Disney hasn’t officially confirmed that Project L has anything to do with the upcoming Monsters, Inc. Land, but from what we’re seeing on the maps in the documents filed, it looks like things match up with where it was previously confirmed that the Monsters Inc. coaster show building would be.
We’ll be on the lookout for more updates about the new Monstropolis and beyond. In the meantime, make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Disney news and more!
