The annual TEA (Themed Entertainment Association) Global Experience Index just released its official report for 2024. The report summarizes data from the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA), Entertainment + Culture Advisors (ECA), The Park Database (TPDB), and InPark Magazine. Now, we finally have a list of the most visited theme parks worldwide in 2024! While the report includes the most visited theme parks globally, Florida’s own Magic Kingdom Park topped the list. Are you surprised? As theme park reporters ourselves (who travel to major amusement parks all over the world), we’re not surprised.

Magic Kingdom
In fact, Disney won big in this category, claiming four of the top five most visited theme parks worldwide in 2024. Following Magic Kingdom, the list includes Disneyland Park, Universal Studios Japan, Tokyo Disneyland, and Shanghai Disneyland.
According to the data, Magic Kingdom saw a 0.7% increase in attendance in 2024. The park reported a whopping 17,836,000 visitors in 2024 alone. Magic Kingdom theme park tickets currently range from $139 to $199 per person.

We also got a look at the top 20 U.S. theme parks in 2024. Here, parks like Universal Studios Florida, Universal Islands of Adventure, and Knott’s Berry Farm made the top ten in addition to Disney’s other U.S. theme parks.

In both the global report and the U.S. theme park report, theme park attendance at Disneyland Park was not far behind Magic Kingdom. Disneyland Park boasted 17,337,000 visitors — that’s a 0.5% increase from 2023.

While the 2025 data has not been released yet, it’s safe to say that The Walt Disney Company is ready to take on more guests.
For the past few years, Disney CEO Bob Iger has touted major expansions across its portfolio of theme parks. Iger has repeatedly laid out his four big priorities for The Walt Disney Company, and one of the main goals is “Turbocharging growth in the Experiences business.” (That’s the theme park and cruise division!) With a promised $60 billion set aside for the Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products segment of the company, Disney has big plans for the future. Fans have long speculated that part of that $60 billion budget will go towards the MEGA Magic Kingdom park expansion, a new land in Animal Kingdom, an Avatar expansion, and a new land in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Now, let’s go back to the TEA Report for a moment. The TEA Global Experience Index was developed in partnership with leading organizations across the field. It was designed to help identify performance, spot opportunities, and anticipate where the dynamic “experience economy” market is headed. Despite consistent year-over-year price increases, theme park fans seem willing to spend their time and money vacationing at Disney theme parks. It will be interesting to see how the numbers compare in 2025.

One important note is that this report was published before the grand opening of Universal’s new Epic Universe theme park in Orlando. We expect the 2025 report to include theme park attendance data from Epic Universe, which may impact the standings of other theme parks around the world. There are no official attendance numbers for Epic Universe yet, but Comcast revealed that Epic Universe was responsible for higher per capita spending at Universal Orlando Resort during its second-quarter earnings call for fiscal year 2025.

Given this new theme park attendance data, it’s no surprise Disney wants to expand the Magic Kingdom. A new Cars Land, called Piston Peak, is in the works, along with a HUGE new Villains Land located “beyond Big Thunder Mountain.” These new lands will bring additional attractions, dining, and shopping opportunities to the Magic Kingdom and could help distribute the crowds more evenly throughout the park.

The Walt Disney Company has a lot on its plate, but if the theme park attendance data continues to trend upward, that $60 billion gamble could pay off big time. In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more.
