Monsters are coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios! A brand-new Monsters, Inc. themed land is coming to Hollywood Studios, and NEW permits were just filed for construction. The land will be located in the Muppets Courtyard area, which began a phased closure in May 2025, and the entire area was closed as of June 8th, 2025. This includes Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano, Muppet*Vision 3D, and PizzeRizzo.

A new ‘Monsters, Inc’ land is coming!

Disney hasn’t yet announced an opening timeline for the new Monsters, Inc. land, which appears to be named Monstropolis based on an exhibit that is located inside Walt Disney Presents in Hollywood Studios. However, progress is definitely being made in the area, and we spotted TWO new permits for construction!

The first permit is for Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano, and it is for “general construction.” The permit was filed by Walt Disney Imagineering for work to be done by PCL Construction Services, Inc. We are thinking this is the start of the transformation for the new Monsters, Inc. land, but “general construction” permits could be for just about anything, so we don’t know exactly what work they will be completing. But something is definitely happening at Mama Melrose’s!

The second permit is very similar to the first, except it is for Pizzerizzo. The permit is also for “general construction” and was filed by Walt Disney Imagineering with PCL Construction Services, Inc. listed as the contractor. Again, “general construction” is a very vague description, and we don’t know what the permit is for specifically, but based on what we know, it is likely related to Monstropolis.

The story of the land will pick up after the events of the popular Pixar film, and humans have now been invited to visit. So far, we know the new land will feature Disney’s very first suspended roller coaster, which is inspired by the door scene from Monsters, Inc. Disney has already started putting up construction walls and fencing off an area where Cast Member parking used to be located to build this new roller coaster.

The land will also feature a new theater show. Based on concept art, we are also expecting there to be a Harryhausen’s Restaurant in this new land. Of course, we will keep you updated as we learn more about this new land!
