Indiana Jones is coming to Animal Kingdom, but not everyone is thrilled about it.
As part of the Tropical Americas addition coming to Animal Kingdom, DinoLand U.S.A. will be replaced by Pueblo Esperanza, a new land headlined by rides based on Encanto and, yes, Indiana Jones. Unfortunately, we have some bad news about the latter.
Pueblo Esperanza will be home to an Encanto-themed attraction, a carousel that will feature some of our favorite Disney animals, and DINOSAUR will be rethemed to Indiana Jones.
While these new rides are super exciting, we have some news that some people may not be too thrilled about.
Over at Disneyland, Indiana Jones already has an attraction, Indiana Jones Adventure. This attraction uses the same vehicles and ride technology as DINOSAUR. While the storyline won’t be the same on this new version of the ride, the ride’s technology is not likely to change.
One of the biggest complaints about DINOSAUR is that the ride is very jerky and whips your head around. Many people choose not to ride the attraction due to its movement. Well, we have some bad news if you were hoping that the new Indiana Jones Ride would be smoother and less rough.
Since Disney already knows that Indiana Jones works well with this ride technology, it would not make sense for Disney to invest in a new track and new ride vehicles. Instead, the ride will just be re-themed.
Depending on the new story, the way the vehicles stop may differ slightly, but the jerkiness that people dislike is unlikely to disappear. This is likely why Disney decided Indiana Jones would be a good fit for the DINOSAUR re-theme: because they would not have to build a new show building, track, or ride vehicles.
While we only have concept art and a model of the outside attraction, we would not be shocked if the only changes are the theme and not the actual ride technology itself.
We can’t wait to get more concept art and details about this new attraction. For the time being, if you want to brave DINOSAUR one last time, you should do so soon as the attraction is scheduled to close for good – a long with all of what’s left of Din0Land U.S.A. – on February 2nd, 2026. I’m 68 years old and just wrote it and I didn’t really notice it being that jerky so I’d love to see it rethemed as an Indiana Jones ride but I enjoy it just as it is
Can’t wait for the Dinosaur transformation to Indiana Jones. The jerky vehicles is what makes the ride exciting, so not disappointed about your “bad news”.
There are very few WDW rides I dislike and only one I really hate and it’s Dinosaur. Granted a redo of theme will go a long way towards fixing what is wrong with it but unless the bumpiness is smoothed somehow a lot of us are going to skip it.
Saddened upset I love dinosaur ride going and saving the iguanodon from the asteroid but I guess it as to end at some point. I have been riding this ride for years now and it’s going to be very hard to say good bye to it.
They could use the same ride vehicles, but change the programming to make smoother. A lot of the bumps are the ride vehicles using air and hydraulic lights to give the feel of a rocky terrain. So don’t give out hope until it’s complete
I’ve been on Indiana Jones in Disneyland and I must say, while it certainly IS a bouncy ride, that is in no way a problem. I found it really added to the experience, and even my 70-something mother tolerated it very well.
I could deal with some of the jerkiness if I could see 6 inches in front of my face or see some of what is approaching. I can not stand Dinosaur due to it being pitch black and getting bounced around. Same reason Space Mountain is not one of my favorites.
Yay! So happy it stays the same!
I’m sure there are ways to make it less bumpy and jerky. But since this ride will be themed around the adventures of Indiana Jones, bumpy and jerky seem like a good fit!
But we shall see!
I have ridden the Indiana Jones ride multiple times at Disneyland. I stopped after the last work on the ride exactly because it was way too jerky and rough . It caused me neck pain for a week. I said no matter how great the ride is I’m not riding it again I know of others who made
The same decision.
Been on both rides. Last time I ride Dinosaur I felt motion sickness but never on Indiana Jones at DL.
Mickey Pretzel 🥨 We bought a giant Mickey Pretzel in Disneyland at breakfast. What we couldn’t eat we packaged and ate it during the day for snacks. It was great and convenient. You never know when you’ll need a gallon sized freezer zip bag.
Not every ride can or should be a smooth boat ride through a dark attraction. Anyone who’s seen Indy get thrown out the front of a truck only to be dragged behind it holding onto a whip knows that some rides are just rougher than others. Some crash into ladders, fly off cliffs, or bump over a nazi bodies before the trip ends. Rough is perfectly appropriate when riding with Dr Jones. Looking forward to it.
I’m with Tina L. I don’t recall Dinosaur being all that rough but it was so dark that I couldn’t really see anything except brief flashes of light. I love Indy so hoping this ride will have more light so we can see what’s happening….and that it’s a fun story….without snakes and spiders which I hate! Otherwise, I’ll just skip it.
Compared to the Indy ride at Disneyland, Dinosaur was a bit of a snooze. I hope they crank the motion up to 11 on the re-theme!
I’ve ridden IJ in Disneyland. Honestly, the jerking and bouncing is what makes the ride fun! Also, far more realistic — no desert or jungle terrain would be a smooth glide. Looking forward to The WDW addition.
I positively LOVE the Indy ride at DL! So immersive and fun! Dinosaur was always a huge letdown – it almost felt cheap in that it uses darkness to hide everything instead of building huge sets with fire, fog, animatronic and projection effects. Really looking forward to this retheme!
For those complaining that it’s too rough, here’s a tip: Ride in the front row. The front row is much smoother and less jerky, while the adrenaline junkies get a more exciting and turbulent ride in the back row.
I haven’t ridden Dinosaur for over ten years due to its jerkiness. Ouch and ouch! When I went with my daughter and her family, they wanted to ride so I waited outside. When they came out, all four of them – parents and kids – said they would never ride that jerky bumpy rough ride again. That is the only ride at Disney World they felt that way about. I won’t ride Indiana Jones (altho I love him) if it is as bumpy and I also don’t ride Space Mountain anymore. Much to my dismay, I will be giving up Expedition Everest next I think.
I’ve read in several places that the bumpiness of the ride very much depends on where you sit! We sit in the very last row, having no idea it could make a difference, and it’s the bumpiest ride I’ve ever been on. I’ll try it sitting further forward but if it’s as bad as the last time? That will be my last time and I’ll just have to watch videos of the ride in the future.
Being in California, I’ve ridden the Indiana Jones Adventure many times. It’s not too jerky….but the part where it goes upside down is spooky. Maybe they will leave that part out in Disneyworld.
