We have been waiting for Disney to make some sort of announcement about what the future looks like for DinoLand, U.S.A. — and it looks like we might have an answer soon.
No timeline has been officially announced, but after seeing the first permits filed back in March, we knew we’d be in business soon. While we still haven’t heard anything from Disney, we have another hint that things are moving forward for this retheme. Let’s get into the details!
Back in March, Disney filed a permit with the South Florida Water Management District we were pretty sure was the very beginning of the end of Dinoland U.S.A. The permit was filed for a trailer compound — which usually pop up at construction sites. The permit showed that this compound will also have parking and utilities for those who will be working on-site.
And now, two more permits have been filed for this major construction project! Things must be moving along at the trailer compound we previously saw a permit for because Disney has filed to install two trailers over in this area.
Both permits were issued to Walt Disney Imagineering and the contractor listed on them is Modular Building Systems International, LLC, which specializes in temporary trailers. The expiration date on the permits is May 23rd, 2025, which is the standard one year from the date of filing unless otherwise specified. In this case, we don’t think it’s too significant.
But, it does mean that the Tropical Americas retheme is moving full steam ahead! Work is already being done on the Casitas from Encanto to bring them to life inside the land. And, in April 2024, Disney shared that Imagineers were on research trips to Mexico to gather inspiration for the new area.
Disney explained that Imagineers are taking inspiration from some of the most biodiverse areas on the planet in the regions just north and south of the equator here in the Western Hemisphere, including the northern part of South America, stretching up into Central America.
We can’t wait for Disney to announce more details about this retheme coming to Animal Kingdom!
