Get out your calendars, it’s time to look at some of Disney’s most important upcoming dates.
The biggest date on the minds of Disney fans like me who’ve been visiting Disney World for decades revolves around Dinosaur, the opening day Animal Kingdom attraction that’ll be closing early next year to make way for the completion of the park’s new Tropical Americas. However, the day Dinosaur’s countdown to extinction ends isn’t the only one those planning to visit Disney World in the coming months need to mark on their calendar.
Dinosaur: February 2nd, 2026
The Animal Kingdom staple is set to close forever on February 2nd, with the final rides to guests being offered on February 1st. The attraction, which opened with Animal Kingdom in April 1998 as Countdown to Extinction, is going to be refurbished into an Indiana Jones attraction as part of Animal Kingdom’s new Tropical Americas addition. Restaurantosaurus will also close on the same day, completing the full closure of Dinoland U.S.A.
Beyond Dinosaur’s closure, some further Disney dates (and potential timeframes) to keep in mind include:
Kali River Rapids: October 6th, 2025
Animal Kingdom’s river rapids ride is closing on October 6th for a months-long refurbishment that’s scheduled to end in December 2025. The ride usually undergoes an annual refurbishment during the early part of the year, but it seems Disney may have moved up the 2026 refurb to late 2025 to ensure the ride is operational when Dinosaur closes.
Spaceship Earth: Late 2025
EPCOT’s iconic attraction closed for a brief closure on August 25th. According to Disney, the “routine refurbishment” is scheduled to end in late 2025.
Skyliner: January 25th, 2026
If you’re planning to visit Walt Disney World early in 2026, be aware that the resort’s popular gondola system will be down from January 25th through the 31st.
Big Thunder Mountain: 2026
The “Wildest Ride in the Wilderness” has been closed since January 6th, 2025, during which time the E-Ticket attraction has been undergoing a massive refurbishment that will improve the ride’s infrastructure and add new show elements, including a new take on the classic Disneyland Rainbow Caverns. The Magic Kingdom coaster is scheduled to reopen in 2026.
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin: 2026
Tomorrowland’s Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin closed in August 2025 for a refurbishment that will see new ride vehicles, new blasters, and a new scene featuring a parks original robot character named Buddy who will ensure “departing Space Rangers are fully prepared for their mission (by) enthusiastically providing encouragement, final system checks on their Star Cruisers and a chance to hone their blaster aim” added to the ride. It’s scheduled to reopen in 2026.
Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster/Muppets Coaster: 2026
2026 will also see the transformation of the Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster into its new Muppet incarnation, which will feature the Electric Mayhem “playing some of the most iconic, rockin’ hits in your ears to keep the music and adrenaline pumping” during the ride.
Carousel of Progress: 2026
At the 2025 Destination D23 event, Disney announced that the Magic Kingdom’s Carousel of Progress would soon undergo a massive refurbishment that would touch on all acts of the show and add a Walt Disney animatronic to a new introduction scene. While no date was specified, it was intimated that the project would be completed by 2026.
If you’re planning to make your way to Walt Disney World in late 2025 through 2026, you’ll definitely want to keep these dates and timeframes in mind. Stay tuned to DFB for further updates as Disney continues to update their calendar moving forward.
