It’s officially hurricane season, and while many storms don’t end up hitting Orlando, or others spin themselves out in the ocean before ever hitting land, it’s always good to keep an eye on the storms so you know what’s going on.
Hurricanes or tropical storms can really affect your Disney World or Universal trip, so we keep our eyes on all the latest storm news to keep you in the know. If you’ve got a trip coming up in the next two weeks, we’ve got the most recent update on a current system being watched in the Atlantic ocean.
The National Hurricane Center is currently watching a new tropical wave in the Atlantic off the coast of Africa that has a medium chance of developing into a tropical depression in the next seven days.
8 pm ET Aug 31 – NHC is monitoring a tropical wave over the far eastern Atlantic that has a medium chance of developing into a tropical depression during the next week. Visit https://t.co/tW4KeGdBFb for updates. pic.twitter.com/0YQtNGK9c6

In seven days, the current track of this wave would still keep it out in the ocean, but it’s possible that the path can change at any time. If you’ve got a trip coming up in the next week, this potential depression won’t affect your trip, as it’ll still be far out, but it’s possible another could develop closer to land in the next week.
While the weather doesn’t typically get close to Disney World and Universal parks, we have seen it happen before when a hurricane is set to pass directly over Orlando. If you know you’ll be traveling during hurricane season (June 1st-November 30th), it’s usually a good idea to get travel insurance, just to ensure that if your trip were to be canceled or negatively affected during a storm, you’ll be covered.
