Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, the Disney Destiny, is now undergoing its final touches, and with that, we’re getting even more updates about the ship. If you’ve been waiting to hear (and see) more of what’s to come with the onboard entertainment you’ll find here, then this is the update to get excited about!
Disney’s Live Entertainment Costume Design & Development team has been hard at work putting the finishing touches on the costumes for one of the new dining experiences onboard the Disney Destiny. Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship is ready to set sail and welcome its first sailings in just a few months, and we can’t wait to see everything on board.

Just like its sister ships — the Disney Wish and Disney Treasure — the Disney Destiny will feature rotational dining experiences themed around popular Disney animated films. This cruise will debut a brand-new dining experience named Pride Lands: Feast of The Lion King. While we’ve already had a peek at what’s to come with this dining experience, Disney’s just shared an exclusive first look at the costumes you’ll see the Cast Members wearing during their performance!

“The costumes take inspiration from the various regions of Africa, with a mix of both contemporary and traditional silhouettes and details,” said Amanda Avila, Associate Costume Designer with Disney Live Entertainment. She’s also the mastermind behind the costumes and accessory pieces you’ll see the Cast Members sporting during each performance! When designing these costumes, their research led them to draw inspiration from the country of Benin in West Africa. You’ll find pieces of cowrie shell details featured all throughout. In Benin, they symbolize prosperity, wealth, good luck, and destiny.

Throughout your dining experience, the entertainment that surrounds you will fill the air retelling Simba’s journey from cub to king, and the costumes and accessories will help make that an extension beyond their movements and voices. During their performances, the storytellers will wear specific accessories to embody the personalities and attributes of various characters from the beloved Disney animated film. Disney shared that, for example, the Scar accessories are the only pieces in the collection that incorporate the color black, inspired by his black mane, and his headdress will feature a single red feather above his left eye, which was designed to represent his notable scar.

We’ll continue to bring you all the latest updates and news as we count down to our first sailing on the Disney Destiny when she’s ready to welcome aboard her first guests. Stay tuned with us at DFB to see it ALL!
