So it’s no secret that when a new snack drops in Disney World, we get really excited and make a beeline for wherever that new snack has appeared so we can try it ASAP.
When we find out that there’s new CAKE in Disney World, we might even run a little faster, which is why we’ve eaten a LOT of cake (and we’ll eat more). Well, some new cakes and snacks recently dropped for World Princess Week, and let’s just say that getting our hands on said cakes and snacks proved trickier than we could have EVER imagined. We’ll take you step-by-step through our cake drama-filled day.
So we had a list of the cakes that were releasing on a certain date and started traveling around Disney World to grab them. Our first stop was at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, where the Moana Mini Cake was supposed to be available at Capt. Cook’s and Kona Island. When we arrived at Capt. Cook’s, the placard for the cake was out…but when we asked for it, it wasn’t available.
We were told to check with Kona Island. So we did. We didn’t see a placard, but we stood in line so we could ask about the cake. They were not available, but a member of our team had seen them earlier, so what gives? Well, we were told that the bakery brings them out closer to lunchtime. Wait…don’t people eat cake for breakfast? We do! Why wait until lunch? Okay, so still… no cake.
So we hopped on the Monorail and went to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort. We made our way to Gasparilla Island Grill to try another snack, the Tiana’s Mint Chocolate Chip Bar. We saw the sign for the dessert, but y’all, IT WAS SOLD OUT. We were told to come back within the next hour to check again. So here we are…again…with NO cake.
SO….we made our way back to the Polynesian and checked Capt. Cook’s again…still no cake. So back to Kona Island, where we discovered they were waiting for the bakery to bring them some treats. We managed to speak with a Cast Member from Culinary who was restocking the fridge there and were told that Kona Island would have it, but it would be another hour. ANOTHER HOUR, y’all.
We were about to throw our hands up in the air, but we spotted another Culinary Cast Member at Kona Island…and FINALLY, our Moana Mini Cake arrived. After HOURS of waiting, our little cake had finally appeared, and we had it in our grubby little hands. Honestly, though, this pretty cake was worth it.
Side note: We sent another reporter to get Tiana’s Mint Chocolate Chip Bar later, but we did get to try it, too. But y’all, whew.
To make our story even better, before we went on our cake hunt, we visited Magic Kingdom to see if the Halloween decorations were up — and they weren’t. (However, they are up now). That began our morning of disappointment. So that was our cake adventure of the day, and yes, this happens more often than you would think.
