There’s a new problem plaguing Gen Z in Disney World, and it’s probably not what you think!
It’s not the ever-increasing prices or the ridiculous heat and humidity, or even the dilemma of what to wear on your vacation. Nope, it has to do with all the changes coming to Magic Kingdom. Gen Z is in the middle of a pretty big waiting period!
If you’ve been in the Disney news loop, you know that some major changes are coming to Magic Kingdom in the future. And honestly, it seems like these changes are going to be really exciting for Gen Z! From a Villains Land where you can embrace your dark side to attractions themed to the beloved Cars franchise, the generation living their teens and twenties is going to be right at home.
First, those new Cars attractions are definitely a draw geared toward people Gen Z and younger. The Cars movies came out during the peak parts of our childhood, and our generation helped launch the Lightning McQueen obsession. So to have that franchise represented in Disney World is going to be a big draw for Gen Z!
When it comes to Villains Land, it seems to be a land geared towards those heading into their teens, twenties, and beyond…and Gen Z will be right in that sweet spot when the land opens. It helps that we’re the generation obsessed with all things spooky as well. We’re going to feel right at home with the Disney Villains!
But unfortunately, we’ll be waiting quite a little while for these updates. It’s going to take a few years for all these projects to be completed. With multiple major rides, new theming, and lots of construction on the horizon, we’re essentially in a waiting period for these exciting additions.
On top of that, a few other things that Gen Z loves are closed these days as well! Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (a coaster with a nice zippy thrill) is closed until 2026 while it gets some updates and a new track, and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin (another franchise we grew up with!) is about to close to get updated blasters and ride vehicles as well as a new ride scene.
So if you’re Gen Z and you’re heading to Magic Kingdom, you might find yourself in a bit of a waiting period. Anticipating the new offerings coming to the park but missing some of the old attractions from your childhood visits. Thankfully, there are still a few things geared toward this age group in the meantime.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is themed to The Princess and the Frog, a princess movie that was released during Disney’s Revival Era, which marked many of the films Gen Z grew up loving. TRON Lightcycle / Run provides some pretty awesome thrills for this age group, if you’re missing the roller coaster charm of Big Thunder. And of course, you can still enjoy many Magic Kingdom classics and spot your favorite characters in both Festival of Fantasy and the new nighttime parade, Disney Starlight.
There’s still plenty to do and enjoy in Magic Kingdom, but as a representative of Gen Z, we’re definitely excited for the future!
