Marvel’s new movie, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, has officially arrived in theaters, but it’s also hit Disneyland!
I’ve seen the movie, and I, personally, thought it was…well…fantastic, but it’s also pretty fantastic that Disney has brought The Fantastic Four to Disneyland in a variety of ways. Mister Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch, or The Thing are currently meeting people in Tomorrowland (which looks a lot LIKE the setting of the movie). You can also pick up some limited-time snacks and drinks celebrating the release of the movie. Well, another FANTASTIC thing is happening in Disneyland…and it’s happening at Space Mountain.
From now through September 21st, Space Mountain will be lighting up Tomorrowland with some special projection effects to celebrate The Fantastic Four and the Disneyland 70th Anniversary Celebration. Now, Disney is offering a special behind-the-scenes peek at how Disney’s VFX and Visual Systems Team made this magical nighttime spectacle happen. The video shows how the team worked on the projections after the park closed to get them just right.
Believe it or not, it’s been 10 years since Disney has done any projections on Space Mountain, so needless to say, the technology has changed a LOT since then.
That means it’s been exciting for the team to use new technology to bring this vision on Space Mountain to life.
The video also reveals that Space Mountain has a specific area that works best for viewing. So those panels on Space Mountain are what they focused on for the viewing area for The Fantastic Four projections.
The results, as you can see, are pretty EPIC, as you can see from the full video released by Disney:
So if you’re headed to Disneyland, be sure to visit Space Mountain at night to catch the special projections! And we’ll let you know about anything else going on in Disneyland, so stay tuned to DFB for more.
