Okay, so if you’ve been keeping up with everything happening in Downtown Disney in Disneyland, you’ll know that there have been some MAJOR changes made to the shopping and dining district, with more to come.

Earl of Sandwich Tavern

One of the big changes we’ve been anticipating is the arrival of a Porto’s Bakery location. However, that arrival was recently expected to close down the current location of Earl of Sandwich Tavern SOON, but it looks like that location, as well as the other temporary Earl of Sandwich location, will remain open a bit longer. 

Okay, so some backstory, and we’ll try to make it make sense, although it doesn’t really. The Earl of Sandwich drama in Downtown Disney began in 2022 when the original Earl of Sandwich closed to make room for some of these big changes that have happened in Downtown Disney. Then it returned in a temporary location in 2023. Then an Earl of Sandwich Tavern opened right after that as a separate restaurant in Downtown Disney. Are you keeping up with all this? Yes, it’s confusing.

However, we recently learned that the Earl of Sandwich Tavern would be closing with layoffs beginning on July 28th to make room for Porto’s Bakery. BUT that has changed. According to @ScottGustin, both Earl of Sandwich locations will remain open a bit longer this summer because the construction timelines for Porto’s Bakery are still being finalized.

So for now, both Earl of Sandwich locations will remain. The thing is…there’s MORE. There’s also a THIRD location, an Earl of Sandwich food truck on the west end of Downtown Disney that opened in 2024. As far as we know, that will also remain open.

But we’re not finished yet because a permanent NEW Earl of Sandwich is also being built in Downtown Disney. This will be a two-story restaurant with a quick service walk-up counter, a sit-down Earl of Sandwich Tavern restaurant, and an upstairs cocktail bar.

The important thing to note is that you’ll still be able to get Earl of Sandwich in Downtown Disney.
