Something interesting has RETURNED to EPCOT!

Demonstration in progress
Disney’s been hard at work overhauling the SeaBase aquarium in World Nature and welcoming new manatees into their short-term care program. While we’ve loved stopping by for a chance to see a few new friendly faces, there’s another experience that, if you time just right, could blow your mind!
If you’re visiting a very specific area of EPCOT at certain times of the day, you’ll be able to catch an experience that’s just quietly returned to the park. Over at the SeaBase aquarium, you may have noticed a large lockout chamber that’s sat mostly empty for the past few years, however, all that’s about to change!

What’s that?!
If you find yourself wandering around SeaBase or in search of one of the most unique experiences Disney World has to offer, you’ll find it here a few times each day. EPCOT has recently brought back the Diver Lockout Chamber Demonstrations to the center of the aquariums and it’s all on display for you to view in the open.

Diver Lockout Chamber Demonstration
This demonstration happens only a few times a day, once in the morning at 10:30 AM and again at 4 PM. It’s also fairly short and lasts just around 8-10 minutes or so. If you’re wanting to catch the show, you’ll want to be early as lots of folks were there to see the show when we stopped by.

Crowds in SeaBase
The demonstration starts off with an introduction to the diver who may ask for a volunteer to be his dive buddy. The diver will then go over some hand signals they’ll be using with their dive buddy to communicate once inside. Then it’s time to get to filling up the tank! This fill-up process takes about 4 minutes to fill up and only a whopping 45 seconds to drain. While filling up the tank, your diver may go over and show some of the equipment used in the tube, like their regulator and oxygen tank.

Prepping to go up!
They’ll also stress the importance of keeping pollution out of the water. This was done during our demonstration by showing how similar a plastic bag can look like a jellyfish in the water, and they suggest using reusable bags instead since they’re better for the environment. Once they’re finished with the quick demonstration, the tank is drained and you’ll have an opportunity to take pics with the diver.

Showing a plastic bag in the water
This is one of the most unique experiences you can see while visiting Disney World, and you get some nuggets of helpful information and education at the same time. We’re excited to see Disney reintroduce this offering once again to the park, and we hope this will lead to other show times for such a neat demonstration!
