A NEW Disney board game is almost here — and we got a chance to try it out!

New Disney Villains game!
When you miss being in the Disney parks, it’s understandable to turn to the nearest object to get your Disney fix somewhere else. Luckily, we’ve found games like Disney Villainous and Disney Lorcana to keep us busy. If you’ve already had hours of fun playing either of those games, or are just looking to up your Disney “game” at home, there’s a new spin-off game coming soon that’s now on pre-order!
Disney Villainous Unstoppable! is a new spin-off game announced earlier this year, inspired by the award-winning series that combines the immersive components of Disney Villainous with familiar “move around the board” gameplay for the first time.

Disney Villainous Unstoppable!
Disney Villainous Unstoppable! allows its players to retell their favorite Disney stories from the unique perspective of the villain’s point of view. In this all-new, family-friendly spin-off, players are introduced to new, fast-paced gameplay and a shared game board equipped with thematic gameplay and immersive design. Featuring bright, colorful artwork, players will race to collect the tokens needed to complete the evil plans of Hades, Ursula, Scar, or Maleficent to win. Preorders are happening now at Target.
Overall Game
The game looks simple, but there’s an element of strategy similar to Magic: The Gathering or Pokémon Trading Card Game. It’s not super beginner-friendly and takes a bit of time to get the hang of gameplay. It’s rated for ages 7+, and is best suited for board game players and families who want to graduate their kids into more complex games. If you have a child 9 or under who really wants to play, we’d recommend them being a strong reader, as each turn has multiple steps guided by a card. But once the gameplay clicks, you’re in for a rewarding experience, and it’s a fun way to play out a villain-centric story.
Villains You Can Play
The playable villains for this game are Ursula, Scar, Hades, and Maleficent. The gameplay is more interesting and fun if you walk into it knowing their movie backstories, and the setup will go more easily since each villain has different pieces and ways to win. However, if you’re not as familiar with each villain’s films, figuring out motivations and objectives might not click right away. Maleficent could be a harder one if it’s been a while since you last watched Sleeping Beauty and are not familiar with Maleficent’s storyline.

Choose your villain
Villain Movers (or game tokens) are cute, but not literal character figurines. They’re more of an abstract, stylized token symbolizing the villain rather than a replica of the character. Each villain also has its own “realm.” The details here are PACKED into the gameplay! Each villain has a unique setup and conditions they must clear to win the game.
Card Strategy
Cards can be used for movement or actions, and we’ve found that it takes practice to figure out the best plays. Again, the strategy with this game feels more aligned with a higher thinking game, like learning Pokémon TCG, Magic, or playing a game of poker.

Cards
This game takes strategy, which makes it EXTRA fun!
Final Impression
Overall, it’s a gorgeous game with rich, villainous flavor. It’s certainly more complex than it seems and not the kind of game meant for a quick pick-up-and-play. It’s best for players who are down to learn the ropes (and love a little chaos thrown into the mix!) For anyone who’s a D&D, Hero’s Quest, and Catan-playing family, this is a perfect game for when you want something a little lighter, and could easily become a family favorite. And while it’s not made for super young kids, it’s also a great option to seek out for families wanting to bridge the gap between Candyland and Villainous (the full game) and for nights where you’re playing with non-gamers who need character motivation or want to have some emotional connection with the game. This spin-off of the hit Villainous game debuts to everyone on July 20th, so be sure to check online for future availability!
