Disney World may be the “Most Magical Place on Earth,” but it’s also a massive complex that sees millions of visitors each year, which in turn means there are often emergencies that require intervention from 911 emergency services.
Whether it’s medical emergencies, unruly guests, injuries, or even the miracle of life, there are countless reasons for 911 calls to be made from Disney World. 911 calls made from Disney property are connected to emergency services from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and the Reedy Creek Fire Department.
We spoke to several former Cast Members, who shared 911 stories from their time at the resort.
First up, one former CM shared a story of a medical emergency outside of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. According to them, the medical team seemingly arrived out of nowhere with a gurney and loaded the guest on, doing chest compressions as they ran him back to the backstage area. While this scenario is terrifying — and we hope the guest ended up with a positive outcome — it shows how quickly emergency services can spring into action at Disney World.
On the other side of the spectrum from a medical emergency, there’s the issue of unruly guests. This issue crops up all around Disney World, in particular at EPCOT, where guests can sometimes overindulge while drinking around the world. According to information shared with us, they saw security officers “literally scoop up a raving, belligerent lady that clearly had way too much to drink and wheel her completely out of the park.” While situations like this can be remedied by Disney’s own security on occasion, often police involvement and 911 calls are involved in the more serious scenarios.
In another scenario, a Cast Member relayed to us a story of a “heavily” pregnant woman whose water broke right in the middle of the Frontierland Trading Post! In this story, the woman and her partner requested a wheelchair and left the park to leave the park to prepare for the birth of their child. However, there are instances when 911 needs to be called for pregnant women whose water has broken.
What some guests may not know is that if you find yourself in one of these situations, you don’t just have the option of calling 911. You can also TEXT 911! In Florida, texting 911 is available in all but three counties (Miami-Dade, Hendry, and Holmes), so you can text 911 in Disney World. Of course, texting or calling 911 should only be used in life-threatening emergencies.
These are just a few of the reasons 911 is called to Disney World property. Stay tuned to DFB for more on the infrastructure and inner workings of the resort.
