Muppet*Vision 3D closed down, and Disney is already moving right along!
The walls have been put up, and Disney is now teasing us with brand-new concept art for Monstropolis, the Monsters, Inc.-themed land replacing the Muppets.
So far, Disney has released three concept art images for Monstroplis. The first one is an inside look at the first Monsters, Inc. roller coaster. You’ll hop on and slide through the coaster like you’re one of the hanging doors from the movie.
They then posted two different concept art images from when it felt like Imagineering had not yet decided which space in Hollywood Studios they wanted to use. This one reminded us of Muppets Courtyard.
Here’s another look! This one has a similar layout to Animation Courtyard.
The new concept art posted on the walls outside of Muppets Courtyard look like a spitting image of the original Muppets area!
It appears that they’re retaining all the structural buildings. We can see that the Muppet*Vision Theater still stands, but it now has a marquee sign outside. Maybe another comedy show? The sign reads “The GLOB,” and even the clock tower from the original attraction remains.
The large building to the left was PizzeRizzo, and it appears that the building remains unchanged. We’re assuming this will continue to be a quick-service spot, but we don’t have any clues as to what it could be.
Near where Mama Melrose was, it appears to be being converted into Harryhausen’s, the Japanese restaurant featured in the movie.
Behind that is the new area where the roller coaster will be. This is currently a backstage area, so Disney is opening up the walls and expanding the whole area.
Looks like the Miss Piggy fountain is staying, but we’d imagine Miss Piggy is relocating somewhere else.
In one of the original concept art pieces, it appears that a playground was initially planned, and that idea is still in place. If you look very closely under the colored awnings, you can see what looks like something you can climb on.
With all the buildings around, it truly makes it feel like a city, and that’s been an image that has stuck around since the original concept art.
We don’t have any opening dates for Monstropolis but while we’re sad to see the Muppets leave, we’re welcoming Mike and Sulley with open arms. Make sure you keep following Disney Food Blog for more Disney news!

I hope the restaurant replacing Mama Melrose does not feature solely Japanese food. We hate sushi.
I love dreaming about the future! Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios, HERE I COME! Can’t wait for the opening.
Any information on how intense the roller coaster will be? Any comparison to existing coasters.
I am excited about this new area. But honestly think it was dumb of Disney to take out the Muppet Show. It was something every person could do from a baby to the elderly person. I hope there is more Muppet stuff besides the roller coaster in the future. The Muppets are for children. Children at a certain height cannot ride Rockin Roller Coaster (I assume that Disney is going to change the theming like they did with Splash Mountain and Malestrom). Or maybe Disney can put in something for everyone to do in the Monsters Inc area?
Don’t expect it to look like the concept art. Nothing Disney has built in the last ten years remotely resembles the concept art. They will decide this can be cut, that will be cut, don’t need this theming, etc. etc. You will get a shadow of what they are telling you. Can’t spend the money to make it great because we have to give millions to Iger’s bonus that is totally undeserved. He really is the worst thing that has happened to the WDW company.
