If you ask us, it’s always a good day when NEW eats come to the Disney parks.
Of course, we’re pretty biased because that just means we’ll eventually get to try them out ourselves! Recently, new menu items debuted at Lamplight Lounge Boardwalk Dining over at Disney California Adventure, so we headed to check them out. Does this waterfront, walk-up dining spot have food as good as the views? Let’s find out!
NEW menu items have landed at Lamplight Lounge Boardwalk Dining, so of course, we had to go check them out! We grabbed the new Beef Sliders ($17), Beer-battered Fish Tacos ($22), and Korean-style Chicken Wings ($14).
We started off with the Beef Sliders, which are served with grilled onions, ale cheese sauce, bacon, and house pickles. We were looking forward to these the most, but they were probably our least favorite of the new items. The patties were too dry and there was too much bun for how small the patties were.
There was a nice peppery seasoning we liked on the patties, but if it weren’t for that they’d be both dry and bland. The ale sauce had a rich and creamy cheese flavor but we wished there had been more of it, or another sauce to dial into the bun. Our favorite part was the bacon, it was thick-cut with a savory and salty flavor. The pickle added a little dill tang but with only one slice per slider, it was drowned out by the other flavors.
Next up, the Beer-battered Fish Tacos come with corn tortillas, avocado sauce, chipotle sauce, cabbage, pico de gallo, radishes, micro cilantro, and a lime wedge. There was a LOT going on here — these were messy but SO good. The tacos had the perfect mix of fresh and spicy. The avocado had a refreshing, vibrant, and almost sweet flavor that offset the spice from the chipotle sauce. The pico de gallo tasted fresh and added a nice crunch to the tacos.
The beer-battered fish had a crispy and flaky golden brown crust. Our reporter who tried these is not always the biggest fan of fish — especially fried — but the fishy taste wasn’t too strong. The fish was tender, we didn’t get any of the strong fishy flavor that can sometimes be an issue.
The Korean-style Chicken Wings are served with a kimchi buffalo sauce, topped with green onions, and served with spicy cucumbers. The crust was light and crispy with an almost sweet flavor to it. The kimchi buffalo sauce tasted like your average spicy buffalo sauce with a kind of sweet and sour flavor from the kimchi. The meat was tender and easily came off the bone and the spicy cucumber was a fun choice for the side. It was the perfect refreshing crunch followed by a mild spice in the aftertaste.
We picked up the Cauliflower Wings ($22) to compare. This is Battered Cauliflower tossed in Kung Pao Sauce, paired with Spicy Cucumber, and garnished with Red Bell Peppers and Green Onions.
These were great! The cauliflower was well-cooked, where the batter is crispy and satisfying, but the cauliflower isn’t mushy at all. The Kung Pao sauce makes for a great savory flavor profile, especially when paired with the fresh and spicy cucumber.
Finally, we grabbed the Lobster Nachos for $27. These are made with Warm Lobster with Black Beans, Lobster Cheese Sauce, Shredded Cheese Blend, Pico de Gallo, Sliced Serrano Chiles, and Chipotle Crema.
These nachos are absolutely the star of the show at Lamplight. It’s an actual MOUNTAIN of food! So so so much lobster in big, delicious chunks. The cheese sauce on this is so rich, creamy, and satisfying, and the serrano chilis add the perfect heat without being overpowering.
If we had to rank these new items, the tacos would take the top spot, followed by the wings, and finally, the sliders.
In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for the latest and greatest new eats from Disneyland, Disney World, and more. Make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog so you don’t miss any Disney news!
