Y’all — we’re getting closer and closer to seeing a brand new show in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

The Little Mermaid: A Musical Adventure

As you may know, the Voyage of the Little Mermaid show has been closed since 2020, but we finally found out that a NEW The Little Mermaid show would take its place called The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure set to open this summer. This is a revamped version of the show, which tells the story of Ariel that we’re all familiar with from The Little Mermaid animated movie. Now, we’re going to share a close-up look at that new show!

One sign that the new show will be coming soon is that Disney FINALLY took down the old signage at the Voyage of the Little Mermaid theater building to make way for the new. Here’s what it looked like before:

One thing that’s really exciting about the new show is that it will feature brand new puppetry to bring the creatures from Ariel’s world to life. Disney also recently confirmed that rehearsals for the new show were underway. Some of these new creatures include frogs and flamingos.

We’ve also learned that Ursula is going to be both a practical puppet early on in the show AND a “larger than life” digital version of the character for the climactic battle finale scene. We’ve even seen an example of the motion capture that Disney is doing to create the digitized version of Ursula.

One thing this show will have that “Voyage of the Little Mermaid” didn’t is one of the most iconic songs from the movie, “Kiss the Girl.” Disney has shared that this will be the BIGGEST number in the new show.

The show is going to use puppets, actors, special effects, and screens all blended together. You’ll see large physical set pieces on stage, as well as the actors and puppets, and these will blend seamlessly with the other effects to tell Ariel’s story in a new and surprising way.
