For the past year and a half, one of Disney World’s hottest rides has been TRON Lightcycle / Run.
The coaster opened in April 2023 after several weeks’ worth of previews, and it began operating during the day with a virtual queue to manage crowds. While the ride has had a bit of controversy due to its restrictive seating style, the virtual queue has still been a hot commodity that fills up fairly quickly. But now, Disney has done away with it!
As of Monday, September 9th, TRON Lightcycle / Run no longer has a virtual queue! If you want to ride from now on, you’ll either need to wait in the standby line or purchase the Lightning Lane Single Pass for the attraction.
When we arrived at the ride on Monday morning, the Cast Members were waiting to usher people into the standby queue. You’ll need to stick to the right side of the ramp and enter the same way that you used to for the virtual queue.
If you’re using the Lightning Lane or looking to try out the test seat, you can head up the left side of the ramp instead. There weren’t too many crowds in this area first thing in the morning.
Early in the day, the wait time was already up to 70 minutes. However, it wasn’t the longest wait in Disney World — Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure had a longer queue at the time! We’ll continue to keep an eye on the wait time throughout the day.
UPDATE: As of 11:15AM, the TRON Lightcycle / Run wait time has dropped to 30 minutes. That’s surprisingly low for one of Disney World’s biggest thrill rides!
Keep in mind that TRON Lightcycle / Run is not currently available for Early Theme Park Entry in Magic Kingdom. Early Theme Park Entry is when Disney Resort guests get entrance to the parks 30 minutes earlier than off-site visitors, and at Magic Kingdom, most of Tomorrowland and Fantasyland are open during that time. However, TRON is not currently included in the list of attractions open. So your best strategy is probably to hop on a different ride and then get to the TRON entrance before the park opens so you can wait outside for rope drop.
Even though the virtual queue has been taken away from TRON, virtual queues are still used for two other popular attractions in Disney World. Also in Magic Kingdom, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure has been using a virtual queue (although Disney has hinted at it going away in the future) since it opened earlier this summer.
Over at EPCOT, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is still using a virtual queue. That ride opened in May 2022 so it has been operating without a standby line for quite some time. Disney hasn’t shared any hints about whether or not Cosmic Rewind will keep the virtual queue in the long term.
We’ll continue to keep an eye on TRON throughout the day and let you know of any major updates, so stay tuned to DFB for the latest.
