The incident occurred on Wednesday, July 10th. While no one was injured, the report further adds to the ongoing list of problems for global aerospace company Boeing.
On July 10th, an American Airlines plane in Tampa was headed to Phoenix when it was forced to halt takeoff. According to the Tampa Bay Times, the plane blew a tire during takeoff and caught fire. American Airlines spokesman Alfredo Garduño called the incident a “mechanical issue” and told USA TODAY that the issue stemmed from the Boeing 737-800 tires.

A YouTube user known as Captain Steven Markovich shared a video of the incident online. In the video, you can see the tire begin to smoke, and the plane slowly drives down the runway. A spokesman for Tampa International Airport told the Tampa Bay Times that emergency responders arrived at the scene, and everyone on board “safely deplaned and were bussed to the terminal.”
Passengers were taken to a different plane as a replacement, and no other flights were impacted by the issue.

American Airlines spokesperson Ethan Klapper said, “We never want to disrupt our customers’ travel plans and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused,” per the Tampa Bay Times. This incident follows several Boeing-related issues, most notably the recent midair incident with Alaska Airlines, in which a broken fuselage panel came off the plane.
