We’ve got a lot of things to think about when it comes to getting ready for our Disney World trips, right?
We’re thinking constantly about the flights, the hotels, and all the food we’ll be eating there and along the way. But what if we told you there was one thing that we often overlook and it has the potential to make or break our trips? We’re talking about germs and specifically how you can avoid them on your next Disney World trip! Let’s talk about it!
As we were saying, one of the last things we typically think about when we’re planning our Disney World trips is all of the germs we’re going to be bombarded with. But don’t worry! We’re here to talk about how to avoid those bugs and stay as healthy as possible on your trip.
Say No to Aisle Seats on the Plane
First things first. When you’re on the plane, will you be getting an aisle seat? No. Give that one a hard pass.
A 2008 CDC study found aisle dwellers are exposed to way more germs. Instead, score yourself a window seat and create your own personal germ shield.
Prioritize Your Sleep
Next, sleep is your best friend. Sounds like a no-brainer, right? But when you’re hyped for Disney, sleep can literally be the last thing you think about.
Don’t do it! A sleep-deprived body means a weaker immune system, which means germs win. So make sure you’ve already caught those zzz’s before catching the plane.
Hydrate Like It’s Your Job
Hydration is key too. Especially if you’re indulging in those salty treats like Mickey pretzels, which will have you dehydrating faster than you think.
Also, Florida’s incredibly hot and humid, so keep that water bottle handy.
SPF is Non-Negotiable
While we’re talking about hydration, don’t forget the SPF! Sunburn is no fun, and skin cancer is a serious deal.
Pack that sunscreen and reapply it religiously!
Hands Off!
Now, let’s get down to the nitty-gritty. If you can, basically avoid touching anything if you can help it.
And that includes those “interactive” queue elements. So yeah, maybe skip the honey wall in The Many Adventures of Winne the Pooh’s queue. I know that sounds extreme, but a healthy vacation is a happy vacation!
Meet Hand Sanitizer (Your New Bestie)
Hand sanitizer is my BFF. I practically go through a mini bottle every other day, no joke. You’ll want to pack a few and become the Queen (or King) of clean hands.
While you’re at it, you should pack sanitizing wipes. They’re perfect for wiping down all the surfaces around you like your tabletop, TV remote, and trash cans too.
Eat like a Germaphobe
Forget about digging into those corn dog nuggets with your bare fingers. Use forks and spoons all the time (they’re your new best friends).
If utensils aren’t an option, a napkin barrier is the way to go. Seriously, a little napkin trickery can make a big difference.
Avoid Sharing Items
Avoid handing things back and forth whenever possible. If you’re trying to get a character’s signature, maybe hold out your autograph book for the character to sign instead of handing it over.
We know that sharing is caring, but not when it comes to the germs that can get all over our pens, markers, and utensils. Also, while we’re at it, your phone could also use a good wipe-down too because, let’s face it, that thing goes everywhere.
Boost that Immunity
Lastly, consider bringing some Emergen-C or other immunity boosters.
They’re easy to pack and can help give your immune system that extra kick.
