April 5th marked the beginning of the Season of the Force at Disneyland Resort!
This special Star Wars season runs through June 2nd and celebrates the mega-popular franchise and all of us fans. Over in Disneyland’s Galaxy’s Edge, the celebration features character meet-and-greets, specialty snacks, and even a new fireworks show. We caught the fireworks show when it debuted, but Disney just shared that someone new might be joining the festivities!
This just might be the droid you’re looking for after all! Disney has shared that a modified R1 series astromech droid named Bard will be seen beginning tonight at the Black Spire Spaceport in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge during “Fire of the Rising Moons” at Disneyland Park!
This new fireworks show offers a special view of Disneyland’s fireworks with a musical accompaniment that includes selections from John Williams’ scores from the films! You can watch it from Black Spire Spaceport right next to the Millennium Falcon, the TIE Echelon docking platform, and the speeder garage.
The show is narrated by “Tohan Lege, the storyteller known as the Lore-weaver. Pursued by those in power who would silence his voice, Tohan adopted Black Spire as his home and wrote of its colorful history and the fiery spirit at its heart. His droid, who he fondly called Bard, allows us to hear the Lore-weaver in his own words, each night as Black Spire celebrates the Fire of the Rising Moons.”
Legend has it that Tohan “met and spoke to anyone he could, and began to record its history. To ensure that the stories would endure, Tohan found an old astromech droid left behind at the Depot. The mechanics helped him get it working with scrap parts and luck. Tohan called the droid Bard, and together they recorded the Lore-weaver’s stories, until there were no more to tell.”

R1 Series Astromech Droid – “Fire of the Rising Moons” at Disneyland Park: A modified R1 series astromech droid named “Bard” is featured at the Black Spire Spaceport during “Fire of the Rising Moons” at Disneyland Park in Anaheim, Calif. “Fire of the Rising Moons” is a nighttime experience in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge that highlights a different view of the stunning Disneyland Park fireworks display, with musical accompaniment. Including selections from composer John Williams’ Star Wars film scores, “Fire of the Rising Moons” can be enjoyed from multiple areas in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, including the Black Spire Spaceport, the TIE Echelon docking platform, and the speeder garage. And that’s where Bard comes in! Keep an eye out for him at the Black Spire Spaceport in Galaxy’s Edge starting tonight at Disneyland.
During the Season of the Force, you can visit the wandering droids, say hi to your favorite characters, try new limited-time snacks, ride Hyperspace Mountain (Space Mountain with a Star Wars overlay), and experience the all-new Star Tours scenes. Don’t miss out on this annual celebration!
