Star Wars Day has come and gone, but we’re still celebrating all things Star Wars here at DFB.
That’s because the Season of the Force is still going strong in Disneyland (it lasts through June 2nd), which means we’ll be celebrating everything from a galaxy far, far away for a little longer. Now, that event brings special snacks to the parks, but May the 4th brings more special snacks (some you can only find for ONE DAY) to both Disney World and Disneyland. Yes, we were on BOTH coasts to try out a BUNCH of May the 4th treats, and we’ve got reviews for all of them!
Okay, so let’s get started!
Disney World
We began our May the 4th at Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. There, we picked up the Mossberry Biscuit. This is a Biscuit topped with ube and matcha icing, ube micro sponge cake, sprinkles, and dehydrated blueberries for $5.49. So, this being called a biscuit threw us because it isn’t really what we would consider a regular biscuit.
With that being said, though, we thought it worked. The icing flavors aren’t too sweet, and we loved the matcha flavor, which wasn’t overbearing (and even if you don’t like matcha, you’d probably be okay with this). The dehydrated blueberries added a bit of sweetness and tartness to the “biscuit.” The “biscuit” itself is soft and crumbly. The sponge cake had a dry texture, but it’s such a small part of the whole that it didn’t take away from the rest of the snack.
Next up was the Polystarch Puffbread for $5.29 from the Milk Stand. This is similar to the puffbread we’ve had in Disneyland before, which is sort of like what Rey eats in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. This version, though, is made with Croissants topped with blue and green milk craquelin served with yuzu-passion fruit-coconut dipping sauce.
Okay, this has a croissant texture, but we couldn’t taste a difference in the blue and green milk craquelin. So, both pretty much tasted the same to us.
However, we have to talk about the yuzu-passion fruit-coconut dipping sauce. Okay, first, it was tangy and provided a nice flavor combo for the puffbread. However, this is all we got of it — a TINY amount. So we don’t know if Disney was just being stingy with the dipping sauce or if they were just running out of it.
We then headed over to Disney Springs to visit Amorette’s Patisserie for the Stormtrooper Petit Cake, made with Layers of chocolate chiffon, vanilla bean mousse, dark chocolate ganache, and cherries for $22. First, we’re disappointed with how it looked. The design is printed on, and it looked like the printer had run out of “ink.” First, this is Amorette’s, so we were hoping for a little more in terms of the decoration. Just like a stormtrooper, Amorette’s missed the mark with the cake’s design.
However, the vanilla bean mousse inside the cake is utterly divine. It has a whipped texture with just enough vanilla to be flavorful. The chocolate cake layers paired very well with the dark chocolate ganache and vanilla mousse, as well as the white fondant wrapped around the cake. Then you get a nice tartness from the cherry filling.
Overall, this was a great cake, but the execution fell a little flat for us. This cake is pricey, and we’ve seen this location create some better-looking petit cakes in the past. But who knows — maybe we just got a bad batch!
Disneyland
Okay, it’s time to head to the West Coast to try out the Star Wars Day treats. We found the Shaaken Beef with Tattooine Bounty at Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo in Disneyland. It’s served with Peppers, Onions, and Crispy Kale for $17.99. So, this one surprised us because it had a bit of a kick. Yep, it’s spicy, especially the beef.
However, everything tasted fresh, and we loved the crunch the veggies provided with the beef. The portion size is pretty big, too, so it’s more of a meal than a snack. If you’re looking for a nice, high-quality meal in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, this will do it, as long as you’re not averse to spice.
After that, we headed to Kat Saka’s Kettle to order the Kinyenian Topato Pie, which is made with curry-spiced potatoes and mixed vegetables and served with mint chutney. You can pick one up for $10.99.
The outside of the pie is warm with a flaky crust, and the curry spiced potatoes are also pretty warm with a strong curry flavor. That curry pairs really well with the veggies inside, which seemed to have been steamed — they were more on the chewy side than crunchy.
The sauce served on the side was incredibly minty, and when you dip the pie in it, it kind of overpowers the other flavors here. We actually preferred the pie without the sauce.
If you like curry, this would be a really delicious snack for you to try!
At the Galaxy’s Edge snack cart near Droid Depot, we purchased the Galma Garlic Puffs for $7.75. These are garlic puffs flavored with green curry. Sounds interesting!
The last time we tried one of the beverage cart snacks, we weren’t really a fan, but these impressed us! The chips are nice and crunchy with a good curry flavor (lots of curry today!) and a bit of a spicy kick. There are hints of garlic throughout and they make a great crunchy/salty snack. We’d totally order these again! Plus, the resealable bag makes it easy to carry them around in your park bag if you don’t eat them all at once.
We’ve got to wash down all those snacks somehow, and that’s why we ordered the Destran Ice Cap from Ronto Roasters next. It’s $6.99 and made with Sprite, kiwi syrup, and sweet cream cheese.
This was definitely one of the more bizarre drinks we’ve tried in Disneyland. At first, it kind of tastes like milk, and the texture is really thick, but then after a few sips it gets bubbly and the Sprite flavor comes through. The cream cheese flavor really overpowered everything else, and we couldn’t really taste the kiwi or Sprite as much compared to that. If the cream cheese ratio were a bit lower, we likely would’ve enjoyed this more.
We’ll be adding even more Star Wars snack reviews to this post, so be sure to stay tuned to DFB for more.
