Traveling isn’t easy these days — and it certainly isn’t cheap, either!
Between gas prices on the rise, increasing airfare costs, and the price of goods and services increasing in general — things are looking pretty bleak. We don’t like to be the bearer of bad news, but we do like keeping you updated on the latest travel news — which is why we’re sharing this update with you.
Heads up, JetBlue travelers! Baggage fees have increased for select airfare types. According to Fox Business, the change applies to the first checked bag on US, Latin America, Caribbean, and Canada flights within 24 hours of takeoff.
For first bags checked within 24 hours before departure, the fee has been increased for Blue Basic, Blue, and Blue Extra tiers to $45 (previously $35). If you check your first bag more than 24 hours before takeoff, the cost is $35.
Blue Basic, Blue, Blue Plus, Blue Extra, and JetBlue Plus card member customers will have to pay $60 for their second checked bag within 24 hours of departure, and $50 for the second bag before 24 hours of takeoff.
Blue Plus, Mint, and Mosaic customers get complimentary first checked bags still.
“The cost of doing business has gone up significantly due to increased wages, higher fuel costs, and other inflationary pressure, and we remain unprofitable since COVID. While we don’t like increasing fees, it’s one step we are taking to get our company back to profitability and cover the increased costs of transporting bags,” a JetBlue spokesperson said.
“By adjusting fees for added services that only certain customers use, we can keep base fares low and ensure customer favorites like seatback TVs and high-speed Wi-Fi remain free for everyone.”
Hopefully, this won’t have too much of an impact on your upcoming trips. We do our best to keep an eye out for the latest flight deals and discounts that can help you save on your travels, like this one right here — and these too!
