We’re heading to Hollywood…Studios that is!
This park opened in 1989 and has changed significantly since the beginning, with multiple new additions like Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Toy Story Land in the past several years. It’s often known as the park with some of the most thrilling rides, but there are a few rides that the Disney World pros tend to SKIP on a visit to Hollywood Studios.
Star Tours
Let’s start out with one of the more obvious choices — Star Tours. This attraction is the same as its Disneyland counterpart, where you board a space shuttle and travel the galaxy through the magic of 3-D. There are a variety of scenes that you could get from different Star Wars planets that feature different characters, and they’re all randomized so the experience changes each time.
So why do people skip this ride? Well, it’s known for causing a significant amount of motion sickness. Between the simulator-style ride system and the 3-D glasses, you may want to avoid this one if you don’t have a strong stomach.
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster
Don’t get us wrong — this coaster is a BLAST for those who love big thrills and inversions, but it’s not for everyone. The ride starts with a launch that propels you from 0 to 60mph in just a few seconds, and then you’re immediately thrown into an upside-down loop.
However, the main complaint that is made about this ride is that it can make you feel a little jostled. After a particularly rough spin on Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, you might be in need of a trip to the chiropractor, especially if you have a difficult time holding your head still so it doesn’t slam between the headrests the whole ride. 😂
Slinky Dog Dash
Another coaster that made our list is Slinky Dog Dash…but it has nothing to do with the ride itself! Slinky Dog Dash is — in all truth — a really fun ride, but the queue can be torturous, especially in the summertime.
During the busiest times of the year, the line for this ride can be multiple hours long. On top of that, the ENTIRE queue is outdoors. So if it’s hot outside, you’ll be feeling the heat the entire time that you wait. Do yourself a favor and get a Lightning Lane for this ride instead.
Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run
This one might surprise you, since it’s one of the park’s newest rides, but we have a good reason! Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run is BEST enjoyed if you’re a party of six people, where each person in your group can fill a spot in the cockpit and you don’t have to ride with any strangers. But if you’re a party of one or two, you might not have the best experience.
With parties of one or two people, you’re most often paired with other groups. This means that your odds of being pilots are pretty slim, and you’re most likely going to end up as the two engineers behind a family of strangers. That gives “may the force be with you” a whole new meaning!
Alien Swirling Saucers
And last but not least, let’s talk about Alien Swirling Saucers. On this ride, you board a small spacecraft and get slung around and spun in circles behind the little green men from Toy Story. It can be a lot of fun, but it’s definitely not an attraction that we’re willing to wait excessively long amounts of time to ride.
During the busier parts of the year, the wait time for this ride can sometimes reach an hour in length. And for an attraction that only has a runtime of about two minutes, that’s entirely too long to wait outside!
So there you go — the rides that the pros skip in Disney’s Hollywood Studios! We’ll keep you updated with more pro tips and advice for your upcoming Disney World vacation.
