REVIEW: Disney CHANGED a Classic Menu Item — Is the Update Any Better?

We love when we find good food at Disney World.

Many guests think that you can only find average theme park food at Disney World, but that’s simply not true. Yes, there are plenty of places to grab a quick, nothing-special meal, and it’ll get the job done, but there is some amazing food hiding around Disney World. That’s why we try EVERYTHING so you know what’s worth it, and what isn’t. We headed over to Magic Kingdom to try a new sandwich, and we were thoroughly impressed!

The Grilled Chicken Sandwich has changed over at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe, and we were a little hesitant going in. This sandwich is $12.79, and it’s now a grilled chicken sandwich with bacon, cheddar spread, crispy onions, and Coca-Cola cherry bbq sauce on a brioche bun. In the past, Cosmic Ray’s Grilled Chicken Sandwich was made with citrus-soy mayonnaise and mango-cucumber slaw.

To our pleasant surprise, we really enjoyed this sandwich! The chicken was very tender and juicy, and we loved the combination of the bbq and cheddar spread (which reminded us of thick pimento cheese with a bit of onion and spice). The Coca-Cola cherry bbq was sweet and tangy and made the sandwich messy in a good way. Oh, and bacon makes everything better, in our opinion, so we were all over that, too.

Our only complaints were that the chicken breast wasn’t pounded out, so although it was tender, it was slightly challenging to eat. Our brioche bun was also a little on the dry side.

Overall, if you’re a barbeque fan and looking for something substantial but not greasy or heavy, this is a great pick. We wouldn’t recommend this for someone looking for an on-the-go snack, or someone who doesn’t want to use a ton of napkins to avoid getting sauce on their outfit.
