Okay, do you love Chinese food as much as we do?
Well, we’re LIVE at the EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival and eating ALL the food. Right now, we’re heading to China to try out the food at the Lotus House booth. We’ve loved some items from here in the past (meaning we’re going to eat them again), but let’s see how this year compares! So on with our review!
Menu
Over at Lotus House, you’ll find two returning eats, the Spicy Mala Chicken Skewer and the Cheesy Crab Wontons. But there’s a new food this year, too the Pan-fried Vegetable Dumplings. YUM! There’s even a new drink to check out this year!
Now that we’ve taken a look at the menu, let’s dive into the food itself!
Eats
First up, we grabbed the Spicy Mala Chicken Skewer with creamy peanut sauce for $6.75. This one has ALWAYS been a hit with us in the past, so what do we think about it this year?
It was VERY peanutty this year, and the sauce was a little bold and overpowering. However, the chicken was nice and tender and the sesame seeds added a really good texture mix. We liked the freshness of the green onions, but that sauce is really bold and a little spicy so maybe avoid this if you aren’t particularly interested in those flavors.
Next up, we ordered another returning item, the House-made Cheesy Crab Wontons for $7.75. This is another item we can always count on being delicious — it’s wontons with CHEESE. The cheesy in the name should clue you in on how we feel about it!
These were absolutely yummy as usual, and the sweet and sour sauce on top was a great complement. The filling actually had a stronger crab flavor this year, which we were really happy about! It wasn’t all cream cheese. The wontons were fried tender and crunchy at the same time…absolutely perfect.
Finally, the Pan-fried Vegetable Dumplings are new this year! You can get these for $5.25. The first thing we noticed here was how small the portion size is for this item. The red onion flavor was really prominent and the sauce was sweet, yet tangy. The dumplings themselves were a little on the tough side. Overall, not bad but they definitely didn’t “wow” us.
Okay, now we’re parched, so let’s get something to drink!
Drinks
In terms of drinks at this menu, we got the Classic Bubble Milk Tea for $7.75. This is a returning item, but we love a nice classic bubble milk tea — it’s especially refreshing when you’re running around EPCOT all day.
This was pretty good, and almost had an earl grey flavor to it. It was super rich and creamy and the boba was chewy and unique. (They’re not the popping kind — they’re just thick, gummy, and chewy.) The boba doesn’t add a lot of flavor but gives an interesting texture.
Other drinks available here include the returning Cherry Blossom Pilsner Draft Beer for $5.25 for 6oz. You can also get the Kung Fu Master for $14.50 made with Tito’s Vodka, Triple Sec, mango, orange juice, and soda water.
The Tang Dynasty for $13.75 is made with Jose Cuervo Especial Tequila Gold, light rum, strawberry, piña colada mix, soda water, and white boba pearls.
There’s also a NEW drink this year. It’s the Tropical Moon for $13.75 made with Smirnoff Vodka, Triple Sec, passion fruit, soda water, and white boba pearls.
OVERALL
All in all, this booth is fairly good, and we definitely recommend stopping by to try those wontons. The bubble tea is great for anyone who enjoys that beverage, but they also have some bubble tea options at the China Pavilion tea stand next door. Nothing else really stood out to us, so this booth kinda lands firmly in the middle.
That’s it for this booth, but we’re making our way ALL around the EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival. Be sure to stay tuned to DFB for more reviews!
