Disney Genie+ has gone through quite a few changes since originally rolling out in 2021.
We’ve seen updates to how you book and even a shift to surge pricing instead of a flat daily fee. Disney recently announced that BIG changes were coming to Genie+ on both coasts, and now it looks like that update has gone live in Disneyland!
Up until now, Genie+ users could not modify Lightning Lane selections in the Disneyland app without canceling their reservation first, which was pretty inconvenient. But Disney announced that guests would be able to modify Lightning Lane reservations WITHOUT having to cancel — and now that change is LIVE in Disneyland.
You’ll need to update to the newest version of the Disneyland app (Version 7.19) and you should see the new option to modify. We updated our app, and it now shows the option to tap the three dot menu icon and modify your plans or swap out a recommendation.
Previously, guests had to cancel Lightning Lane reservations before booking a replacement, which could get dicey as times can fill up. By canceling, guests ran the risk of losing a Lightning Lane reservation altogether. This new option to modify reservations can save guests a headache and make it easier to tailor your day.
Additionally, guests are now able to change specific members within their party who are attached to their Lightning Lane reservation before submitting any changes — so if one member of your party can’t make your 12:10 Pirates of the Caribbean Lightning Lane reservation but someone else can, you can swap that person out without having to cancel.
Keep in mind that these changes do NOT apply to Individual Lightning Lanes as those are not refundable or eligible for modification, so make sure you choose the right time slot when you make your reservation.
We’ll keep an eye on these changes and let you know if we hear of any more news, so be sure to stay tuned to DFB for more!
