Hurricane Ian is currently a Category 4 hurricane. The storm is expected to make landfall along the west coast of Florida on Wednesday, September 28th. In preparation, Florida officials have issued mandatory evacuations in some counties and various extreme weather watches and warnings throughout the state. A tornado watch has now been issued for Central Florida.

Disney World has responded to the incoming storm by closing some hotels and attractions, updating their cancelation policy, and limiting available hotel reservations. If you were planning to fly in or out of Florida (for a Disney vacation or otherwise), there’s a major airport update you should be aware of.

According to the Orlando International Airport’s website, this airport will be closed beginning at 10:30AM on Wednesday, September 28th. 

They have not yet announced when the airlines will resume operation. Presumably, the airport will remain closed until weather conditions calm so that it’s safe to fly again.

Governor Ron DeSantis shared in a press conference that it may take up to three days for MCO to resume normal operations. And the Orlando International Airport recently tweeted this as well.

Hi there! Operations are expected to resume sometime on Friday, after assessing any damage to airport property or facilities. We recommend checking in directly with your airline, as they may be able to best advise of any flight updates & rebooking info at this time.

In addition, the Orlando Sanford International Airport will close Tuesday afternoon after the final flight out, which is going to depart at 4PM EST (Wesh 2).

NEWS: Disney World, Universal Orlando, SeaWorld, and more local theme parks have announced multi-day closures ahead of Hurricane Ian. Airports in the Orlando area are closing as well. Disney World will close its theme parks and water parks on Wednesday, September 28th, and Thursday, September 29th. Disney Springs will be closed on Wednesday, September 28th. They expect Disney Springs will also be closed on Thursday, September 29th, but more updates on that will be coming soon.

BIG UPDATE: Disney World will officially begin a phased reopening on Friday, September 30th.
