It’s almost time for the Disney Cruise Line‘s newest ship, the Disney Wish, to set sail!
On June 20th, the Disney Wish arrived at Port Canaveral. Although two of its test sailings were canceled earlier this week, the ship’s christening ceremony is still scheduled to take place on June 29th. And now, we’ve just learned that a very special group of people have a big title for the new ship.
Disney cruise ships typically choose a godmother for each new ship, which represents good fortune for the ship’s travels. For the first time ever, all Make-A-Wish children, past, present, and future, will be recognized as godchildren of the Disney Wish.
The Make-A-Wish godchildren will all play a very special role in the christening ceremony, and will join the fleet’s godmothers; Patty Disney, Tinker Bell, Jennifer Hudson, and Mariah Carey. This is the first time in Disney Cruise Line history that children are being honored with this role in the ship’s journey!
Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Chapek stated “Wishing is a transformative experience that brings hope and joy, and it is our privilege to proudly recognize children who strive to overcome challenges as our Disney Wish godchildren. Working with Make-A-Wish to support children with critical illnesses and making magic when it is needed most will always be a priority for The Walt Disney Company.”

The Disney Wish Limited Edition Collection, dropping on July 18th, 2022, will also benefit Make-A-Wish kids, as 10% of everything bought through July 18th, 2023 will be donated to the cause. Disney Cruise Line also donated a stateroom, raising more than $260,000 — those proceeds are going to both Make-A-Wish and Give Kids The World Village.
