March is Women’s History Month and Disney is celebrating with FOOD!
Well, they’re not just celebrating with food, but there are a lot of new eats and treats in places like Disney World this month for the occasion. We’ve tried a dessert inspired by one of the leading ladies from the Star Wars universe, as well as some treats inspired by the women of Disney’s Encanto AND by some famous female Imagineers. And now, we’ve got a savory item to try!
These are the Chorizo Arepas! They’re also inspired by the women of Encanto.
They are cheese arepas topped with chorizo, red pepper and onion-egg scramble, arugula, and sliced avocado. You can find them over at the World Premiere Food Court at Disney’s All Star Movies Resort or at Landscape of Flavors at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort for $9.49.
As you can see, this is a pretty big portion of food! It’s definitely a filling way to kick off your Disney World day. The arepas themselves have a great texture, and the chorizo and red peppers add just the right amount of spice to the dish.
The eggs were cooked well and there was just enough onion to add flavor, but not be overpowering. The avocado and arugula brought a nice freshness to the arepas, too!
Basically, each element is good on its own, but when you combine them all together in one bite, they’re terrific!
Do be aware though that the arugula is lightly dressed in what tasted like a lemon vinaigrette to us. This did cause the greens to wilt pretty fast, so don’t take too long before you dig in!
If you want a hearty meal and don’t mind a little bit of spice, you will probably love these! But, if you’re looking for something sweeter, or can’t take the heat, you might want to grab something like a Mickey waffle instead!
Although, we do have to admit that we tried a little bit of maple syrup with the arepas and it was INCREDIBLE. So, that combo could definitely be a good contender for a nice sweet and spicy breakfast.
