REVIEW: One of Our Favorite Disney World Milkshakes is BACK…But It's Lying to Us!

Here at DFB, we’re pretty much always on the prowl for new snacks in Disney World!

And sometimes, we’re surprised — not with a new treat to try, but with one of our old favorites returning to the park! That’s what happened recently when we stopped by Hollywood Studios…except this time, the treat got a bit of a makeover. (So naturally, we had to try it again! 😉)

What is it that we’re tasting today? Well, it’s the beautiful Chocolate Peanut Butter Explosion Shake at Hollywood Scoops! We fell head-over-heels for this shake last year when it first arrived at the ice cream stand, but this year it’s a liiiittle different. Will it still live up to the hype? We’re putting it to the test.

It’s baaaack!

So what’s going on here? Well, here’s what last year’s version looked like. It was a chocolate and peanut butter shake, topped with a brownie cup and crushed Butterfingers. (Yeah, it’s okay, we’re drooling too!)

This year, the shake has foregone the brownie cup in favor of a chocolate-dipped peanut butter doughnut. The menu now describes it as chocolate ice cream layered with peanut butter sauce, and we don’t know about you, but that sounds like absolute milkshake heaven to us.

How many times can we say “yum” without it being weird?

However, once the shake was in our hands and we took those delicious first sips, it wasn’t quite what it seemed. First of all, the doughnut on top is definitely not a chocolate-dipped peanut butter doughnut — it’s a chocolate doughnut with peanut butter icing on top. However, we weren’t really bothered by that fact at all. The doughnut was moist and the icing added a well-balanced amount of sweetness. We’ve had many doughnut-topped shakes at Hollywood Scoops, but this one was what we wanted the others to be like!

A case of mistaken identity.

Moving on to the shake itself, we had a hard time finding the peanut butter flavor layered in with the chocolate. It was mostly just chocolate ice cream we were slurping through that straw. So that’s probably the one thing we would’ve changed about the shake itself — more peanut butter sauce! (Cause you can never have too much, amirite? 😋)

And finally, let’s chat about those Butterfinger pieces. Disney kept that particular aspect of the shake this time around, and we were LOVING it. They’re stuck to the rim of the cup in chocolate, not in hard icing like other rim toppings from Hollywood Scoops have been before. It makes it a LOT easier to scrape them off with your teeth.

So all in all, we would totally order this again. It’s one of the best shakes we’ve ever had at Hollywood Scoops (just a little bit more peanut butter sauce, please!), and the flavors are some of our favorites. You can pick it up for $9.49 right now, just look for the little placard in the window to make sure it’s there!
