We’re hoppin’ over to The Campsites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort to do some snackin’!
We know and love P & J’s Southern Takeout for its southern classics, but it also has plenty of tasty treats! And today, we’re grabbing another one of ’em: the Pineapple Upside Down Cake Push Pop. There have been seasonal push pops here before, and we’re excited to give this one a try.
Okay, that name’s a mouthful! Let’s break this snack down. For $4.99, you’ll get layers of yellow cake, pastry cream, and caramelized pineapple. Sounds pretty sweet, right? The whole thing is topped with whipped cream and a cherry!
It certainly LOOKS pretty, but we’re warning you: this thing was a struggle to eat! It fell apart with each push, and it was hard to get all of the layers in one bite. So we recommend pushing the entire thing out at once onto a plate, then eating it with a fork. You’ll really be able to maximize the flavor combo that way!
As for the taste…this little guy was amazing! The pineapple was tart, but the caramelization brought out the perfect amount of sweetness. Plus, it was nice and ooey gooey! That pineapple layer was pretty hefty, and accounted for a good portion of the flavor profile. Not to mention, the pastry cream seemed to be pineapple-flavored, too!
If you’re a fan of pineapple upside down cake, you won’t be disappointed! However, this is not your ideal grab-and-go snack. It can be messy, especially if you don’t scoop it out onto a plate. We think a cupcake or a small cake would have been the ideal way to lay out this treat, but hey. Points for creativity, Disney!
