We’ve seen a lot of health and safety changes over the last year due to COVID-19.
Mask mandates, temperature checks, and social distancing have become the norm, but now that there are multiple vaccine options available, we have begun to see some changes in policies across the country. Now we have an update on Florida’s vaccine policy.
According to Click Orlando, Friday morning during a news briefing in Tallahassee Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced that he will be lowering the requirement for vaccine eligibility to age 50. He said, “I’m going to sign an executive order this morning, lowering the age to 50, effective Monday.”
He noted that there is a modest demand for the vaccine in the 60-64 age bracket, which opened up last Monday. “I think the demand has been relatively modest, certainly much more modest than it was at the end of December when we were doing the 65 and plus,” DeSantis shared. He also looked toward the future and the possibility of getting the Coronavirus vaccine to all Florida residents.
‘I think we will definitely be opening it up to everybody, certainly before May 1 and, and maybe much sooner than that, so stay tuned there,” he added. He didn’t give any specific details on a timeline, but he did share that around 42,000 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine should arrive in the state next week. If Florida is given more doses, DeSantis hopes to keep retail pharmacies stocked, stating that they have been “very effective” and that sending more doses there would be a great strategy for making the vaccine easier to get.
We like to keep you posted on these updates because, in time, they could have an impact on the policies in place at Disney World and the rest of the theme parks in Florida. We have already seen Bob Chapek, the CEO of Disney commenting on vaccinations and how things could change in the parks surrounding their distribution. Stay tuned to DFB for all the latest details on health and safety measures and how they’ll impact your vacation plans.
