We’re all about the EPCOT festivals here at DFB. And we get REALLY excited when some of our favorite snacks return from previous years!
We’ve seen some recent changes and editions to the menus at this year’s EPCOT Food and Wine Festival! And today, we spotted a new item at the China booth that reminds us of one of our faves from last year’s EPCOT Festival of the Holidays!
During last year’s Festival of the Holidays, the Shanghai Holiday Kitchen booth was home to one of our favorite items — the Chengdu Street Fries. We loved the spiciness it packed, as well as the fact that it was, well, FRIES. And we were all about the sauce it was covered in!
Well, those fries just made their debut at the Food and Wine Festival and they have a twist! A SHRIMP twist. That’s right, the China booth just added Crispy Fried Shrimp, which is Chengdu Street Fries with — you guessed it — shrimp!
And we have to say, we’re LOVING this new addition to the festival! The combination of the fried shrimp with the fries is a match made in heaven. And the fries even held up well after a lengthy photoshoot!
Our order came with four good-sized shrimp. But what really made this dish stand out to us was the sauce! We feel like the sauce wasn’t quite as spicy as last year, although it could be because there was a smaller drizzle compared to the previous version.
A Cast Member told us the sauce is a mixture of chili sauce and mayo, although we couldn’t taste the mayo at all. The flavor reminded us of a sweet chili sauce with red pepper and chili pepper flakes.
Unlike the Chengdu Street Fries from the previous festival, there were no peanuts in the Crispy Fried Shrimp, but there were still green onions, which added a nice crunch. You can snag the Crispy Fried Shrimp from the China booth for $7.50!
