La Brea Bakery
‘s first shop opened its doors in 1989, and since then, the name has become synonymous with artisan and heirloom breads. The Downtown Disney location in Disneyland is a satisfying place to grab a delicious brunch — and get a taste of American culinary history!
Service at Disneyland’s La Brea Bakery is two-fold. First, there’s an Express window where guests can order and carry out. Second, there’s a table service restaurant where guests can make Advance Dining Reservations or walk-up.
The decor is Craftsman style, in keeping with the nearby Grand Californian Hotel and Spa, which captures that spirit as well. You’ll see lots of wood shingles and molding with linear light design and natural colors.
And the food? Well, let’s just say that first impressions are not misleading at La Brea Bakery!
We tried three brunch menu options in the table service portion of the Bakery: Blueberry Buttermilk Pancakes, Pecan-Stuffed French Toast, and a Croissant Sandwich.
The Blueberry Buttermilk Pancakes are as classic as they come — and they’re big enough to share for sure, especially if you want to sample some of La Brea’s baked goods or other brunch menu items. They’re served up as big as your head with sides of butter and maple syrup.
Pecan-Stuffed French Toast is stuffed with the Bakery’s cream cheese blend and pecans, and topped with blueberries, banana, and a dusting of powdered sugar.
This French toast is terrific. The cream cheese filling is flavorful, and the pecans aren’t overwhelming. With the side of maple syrup, this is a sweet — but not overly so — brunch.
Our final brunch dish is a Breakfast Croissant, and as promised it’s on one of the Bakery’s crispy-on-the-outside-soft-on-the-inside croissants.
The pecan-smoked bacon is a crispy option and not your average Disney bacon. There are lots of scrambled eggs and white cheddar cheese, too.
The Breakfast Croissant is a big sandwich and share-able, again, if you plan on trying more than one menu item. As fuel for your day, it doesn’t get much better than this with protein to help a guest ride all the rides. 😉
La Brea Bakery is a wonderful addition to the Downtown Disney breakfast/brunch scene (they serve dinner, too!), with classic, comforting menu items to satisfy and fuel loads of fun. The best part: it’s outside the park, so even if you’re not heading into the Parks, you can still enjoy it! And you should.
