While there are many popular souvenirs available at Disney World — pins, Mickey Ears, clothing, plush, and on it goes — one of the most popular categories of Disney World souvenirs is free! That’s right, we’re talking CELEBRATION BUTTONS.
These personalized pieces allow revelers to show other guests and Cast Members what they’re celebrating. However, there’s something about the buttons that many guests don’t see to understand. So let’s dig in!
What Are Celebration Buttons?
So, a quick refresh for those unfamiliar: Celebration Buttons are a complimentary souvenir available at Walt Disney World.
There are several variants available, including:
- 1st Visit
- Birthday
- Happily Ever After for weddings, honeymoons, and anniversaries.
- “I’m Celebrating…” that can be personalized for any occasion.
Cast Members will personalize these buttons with guests’ names, dates, and specifics of their celebration.
Where Can Celebration Buttons Be Found?
Celebration Buttons can be found across property, at Guest Relations at the Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom, as well as the front desk of any Disney resort hotel, and most merchandise locations on property.
The Rule Everyone Gets Wrong
So, Celebration Buttons are free, varied, customizable to pretty much any occasion, and available across Walt Disney World. What exactly are guests getting wrong about them? Well, it all has to do with expectations.
You see, Celebration Buttons are one of the things that Disney Cast Members used to hand out Magical Moments. These extra-special actions taken for guests aim to make their day, well, magical. Things like a room upgrade at a Disney hotel, a complimentary treat, or getting picked to do something special, like be part of a show.
Truth be told, your writer had an experience like this several years ago when my wife and I received complimentary PhotoPass at the Magic Kingdom thanks to “Happily Ever After” buttons we were wearing in honor of our anniversary.
However, these small actions used to fly somewhat under the radar, but — like many things — the internet has had a somewhat negative effect on them. See, some guests began to incorrectly EXPECT special treatment, freebies, etc., on their vacation because of their buttons, thanks to reading about someone else’s experience online.
Suffice to say, wearing a Celebration Button does not guarantee ANYTHING except friendly congratulations from Cast Members and (most likely) other guests. So bear that in mind next time you’re celebrating a special occasion at Walt Disney World, and stay tuned to DFB for more about the rules at the “Most Magical Place on Earth”!
