Southwest Airlines has been making a lot of changes recently, including removing its free checked-bag perk and switching to assigned seating. Now, Southwest Airlines has added a NEW perk, and wine lovers are going to be excited about this one. Southwest just announced its new Sip and Ship Program, which will allow passengers to bring home a case of wine from their favorite wine country destination. The best part? The case of wine flies for free!
No special membership required and no checked baggage fees. That’s right, you can bring home an entire case of wine for free when you fly on Southwest Airlines. Of course, there are a few caveats, so let’s dive into the details of this new perk.
If you are a wine lover, the new Sip and Ship program is for you! With the program, you can check a case of wine for free when you travel within the United States from a participating airport. The participating airports are all across the West Coast and the Pacific Northwest wine regions. Here is a look at the participating airports:
California
- Burbank
- Fresno
- Long Beach
- Los Angeles
- Oakland
- Ontario
- Orange County/Santa Ana
- Palm Springs
- Sacramento
- San Diego
- San Francisco
- San Jose
- Santa Barbara
- Sonoma County
Idaho
- Boise
Oregon
- Eugene
- Portland
Washington
- Seattle/Tacoma
- Spokane
If you are departing from one of the above participating airports, you can bring one properly packaged case of wine up to 12 bottles. The case must weigh 50 pounds or less and fall within Southwest Airlines’ standard sizing limit. You must also be at least 21 years or older. If you meet all of these requirements, then you can check a case of wine for FREE. Make sure your wine is packed in a sturdy, leakproof container, and bring it unsealed to the Help Desk for inspection by a Customer Service Agent. The agent will ensure it is properly packed, then seal and label the case for you.
Then just like that, you will be on your way to your final destination with an entire case of wine to enjoy later! We are always on the lookout for the latest travel news, so make sure to stay tuned to DFB for more!
