After a long Disney World vacation, checking out of your Disney hotel isn’t exactly the highlight of your trip. However, with this tip, it doesn’t have to be a problem, either.
Checking out of your hotel can be stressful, but it doesn’t have to be! It’s true that Disney World’s policy can get convoluted — surprisingly — due to automatic checkout that doesn’t require a trip to the front desk. With that said, there is one tip that should help you avoid any issues.
Per Disney, “If you have a credit card on file — or you have a zero-dollar balance –it’s easy to check out of your room, with no need to stop by the Front Desk! You can enjoy streamlined checkout through the My Disney Experience app. Just open the app menu and select ‘Hotel Reservations’. Then select ‘View Charges’ to begin checking out. If you forget — no worries, you’ll be automatically checked out at our checkout time, 11:00 AM.”
Some guests have reported that they have found themselves automatically checked out and locked out of their rooms EARLIER than the 11 AM cutoff, unfortunately. If the location services built into the app tracks you away from the hotel — like at one of the theme parks — on your final day, there is a possibility automatic checkout can be triggered. That means you could be left locked out of your room and away from your belongings, potentially.
The solution? Plan ahead if you plan to still have a day at Disney World during your checkout window. If you intend on grabbing breakfast away from your hotel or visiting the Disney Parks, their is one important thing you can do to protect yourself from any digital errors.
Aside from limiting yourself to breakfast at your hotel, you can also drop your bags off with Luggage Services! By doing this, you set yourself up for success. If your room DOES lock you out, it really doesn’t matter, since your belongings will be protected by Disney. And by checking your bags with Luggage Services, you give yourself the chance to spend an entire day still exploring Disney World. No hotel room — no problem!

We are normally packing up and getting our stuff out until 11:00 on checkout day, especially since we started staying at the Cabins at Fort Wilderness. We’d love to get out earlier, but we go for longer trips less often now, and there is so much to pack up. Since our car is right there, I usually just ensure the cabin door doesn’t close all the way while we go in and out on that last morning. I also tell our people to leave their phones and MBs in the cabin until we are ready to leave on our last day. It’s not a guarantee that you won’t be checked out, but I do believe being tracked as having ‘left the room’ is one of the things that is getting people checked out early. I know that’s not the only way it’s happening, but I do believe it is one factor. Also, there’s no guarantee it will be honored, but you can always bring your own ‘please do not disturb’ hangtag if there isn’t one in your Disney room. At least it will signal to mousekeeping to knock 😂
