Disney Imagineering just filed not one, but TWO big permits for Disney World!

Disney’s Animal Kingdom
We all know that Disney World has some MASSIVE expansion plans for the coming years. Over at Magic Kingdom, we’ll eventually see the addition of Villains Land and Piston Peak. In Animal Kingdom, DinoLand U.S.A closed to make way for a new Tropical Americas Land, called Pueblo Esperanza. Then, in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we’re seeing Monstropolis take over what used to be Muppets Courtyard. Well, we have some news on two of the four lands that are on the horizon — let’s take a look at the details!
Encanto Ride
First, let’s take a step in Animal Kingdom, where Disney Imagineering is hard at work bringing Pueblo Esperanza to life. The new land will see three new attractions — a new carousel, an Indiana Jones ride, and a ride themed after Encanto. Disney Imagineering has been going crazy because the Encanto ride building structure has been completed. All the steel bars are in place, which means it’s time for phase two.

Tropical Americas construction
Now, it looks like Disney Imagineering can focus on building the themed sets that will immerse guests in the magical Casita. A new permit was filed yesterday by Walt Disney Imagineering, and the scope of work is defined as “Install set elements”. The permit is set to expire in one year, which tells us that whatever work is contained in the scope of the permit will be finished by early March 2027 — crazy! We also noticed that the address on the permit is for a demolished backstage trailer that used to be on land that is now part of the space that the Encanto attraction takes up.

The contractor listed on the Notice of Commencement permit has worked with Walt Disney Imagineering before, helping with attractions such as Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure at Shanghai Disney. The contractor has also worked on Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at both parks. Their work for the lands included 3D Show Set Design, Building Information Modeling, show set theming for 15 ride scenes, and more.

Back at the D23 Expo in 2024, when Disney announced that this ride was coming to Disney World, they described it as an attraction that would take guests throughout all of Casita, most likely meeting the Madrigal family along the way. This will be any Disney park’s first attraction inspired by Encanto, and seriously can’t wait.

Encanto is coming to Animal Kingdom!
Something is happening at Monstropolis
Let’s move on to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, where a Monsters Inc. Land is coming! Last year, we saw the closure of Muppets Courtyard as Disney got ready to start construction on Monstropolis. The new land will feature a first-of-its-kind roller coaster at Disney, along with some rethemed venues. This includes the building that once housed MuppetVision 3D.

Construction for Monsters Inc. Land
Walt Disney Imagineering filed another new permit, and this one calls for the installation of new set elements at the former MuppetVision 3D building. The contractor listed is Adirondack Scenic, who has been a popular contractor for Disney Imagineering for some time — the same one helping with the Encanto ride. The permit expires in a year, just like the other one, indicating that the work contained within the scope of this permit will be completed by early March 2027.

Working on the Muppet Vision 3D building!
We’ll be completely honest, we have no idea what this attraction will entail. Details have been pretty scarce on this attraction, unlike some of the details we’ve gotten on the roller coaster. The attraction has seen a few different names in early concept art, the most recent being “The Glob”.

It’s exciting to see the work that Disney Imagineering is putting in and the rapid progress that is being made, considering the scale of these projects. Disney World is going to look very different in a few years, and seeing its transformation is going to be amazing.
