Aaahh, the sure signs of SPRING in Disney World… Disney topiaries dotting EPCOT, the Garden Rocks Concert Series, and Outdoor Kitchen Food Booths at the EPCOT International Flower and Garden Festival.
While we’re at it, what could be more spring-inspired than a Food Booth called Magnolia Terrace? Presenting dishes inspired by the Gulf region, you’ll find it as you stroll through The American Adventure Pavilion. As we make our way around EPCOT to review every single Flower and Garden Festival Food Booth for you, we hope you’ll join us to find out what’s blooming at Magnolia Terrace!
Menu
When it comes to food, the philosophy at Magnolia Terrace this year is primarily, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” as evidenced by the menu nearly all made of returning favorites: the Grilled Gulf Oysters, Spicy Chicken Gumbo, and Bananas Foster Bread Pudding. The exception here is the new Blackened Shrimp Po’ Boy.
The beverage menu, however, offers an entirely new Beverage Flight comprised of Southern Tier Brewing Company Early Bird Blackberry Lemonade Ale, Copperpoint Brewing Co. Sweet Tea Amber Lager, and Keel Farms King Cake Hard Cider (which can also be purchased individually). And the Spiced Rum Cocktail has made its way back.
Alright, friends… get yer Gumbo (and more) and let’s dig in!
Eats
Let’s start with the new arrival: the Blackened Shrimp Po’ Boy is served with lettuce, tomato, and Cajun rémoulade, which costs $7.49.
We enjoyed this sandwich a great deal. The shrimp was very tender, with a perfect snap, and the roll was fluffy inside and flaky outside. The sauce had some heat to it, which was nicely offset by the lettuce and tomato.
The Grilled Gulf Oysters are back for $7.99 and are plated with andouille sausage, butter, and lemon.
Also returning is the Spicy Chicken Gumbo featuring BEN’S ORIGINAL Long Grain & Wild Rice with andouille sausage for $6.29. Last year, we thought this had a really good flavor — it was rich, and the chicken was tender, while the sausage had some good spice to it without being spicy.
The $5.19 Bananas Foster Bread Pudding with a rum-caramel sauce is the finishing treat here at Magnolia Terrace.
The cake is very moist and dense, almost like a loaf of banana bread covered in caramel and banana slices. The banana slices tasted very fresh and added a nice extra sweetness to an already delicious dessert.
Onto the drinks!
Drinks
Are you ready to raise a glass? How about the returning Spiced Rum Cocktail for $12.75?
Spiced rum, coconut rum, Simply Fruit Punch, and Minute Maid Orange Juice make up the mix. This sweet and fruity drink is absolutely a classic rum punch; though it’s not particularly memorable, it does the trick!
The Beverage Flight is all-new this year, and it’s a mix of two beers and a hard cider for $12.75. Any of the individual drinks is also available as a 6-ounce pour for $6.00 or a 12-ounce pour for $9.75.
First up is the Southern Tier Brewing Company Early Bird Blackberry Lemonade Ale.
The Lemonade Ale has a very smooth taste without any bitterness common in other alcohols. Instead, the blackberry taste dominates, while the carbonation gives it a refreshing twist.
Copperpoint Brewing Co. delivers the Sweet Tea Amber Lager.
This Sweet Tea Amber Lager was probably our favorite of the three, as it went really well with the Shrimp Po’ Boy. The initial sip had a distinct beer flavor, while the aftertaste brought out the iced tea flavor.
Finally, Florida’s Keel Farms provides the King Cake Hard Cider as a nod to not only the Gulf region, but also to Mardi Gras!
This cider is very fruity, and not nearly as bitter as we were expecting.
OVERALL
The stars of the show at Magnolia Terrace were the Shrimp Po’ Boy and the Beverage Flight, specifically the Copperpoint Brewing Co. Sweet Tea Amber Lager, which paired best with the sandwich. That combo is well worth heading to the booth all by itself. However, the rest of the booth doesn’t disappoint.
Thanks so much for joining us at Magnolia Terrace! And remember… there’s a LOT more where that came from!
