We say it all the time, but only because it’s true — there are SO many restaurants in Disney Springs that we love, and we get excited when we see new menu items added.
This weekend, we spotted two new drinks in the shopping and dining district, one of them at a spot that often impresses us, but sometimes lets us down. You know we had to head to grab them ASAP and give them a try. Are they worth your hard-earned money? We’re about to find out for you!
We headed over to The Polite Pig first, which has a reputation for either really impressing us or letting us down (and then we’re sad for the rest of the day). The Rye-Rita Margarita is $13.99, and is made with Elijah Craig Rye, Tequila, Citrus, and Agave Nectar.
This was a refreshing take on a classic margarita! The rye creates a spicy, warmer feeling that lingers on the palate for just a moment, so much so that the drink feels slightly autumnal due to the warm spices. It’s a very pleasant contrast to the lime flavors we normally associate with a margarita, especially because the classic light citrusy flavors are balanced out by the rye. The large salt-flecked rim may be a little intense for those who aren’t used to it, though, so keep that in mind.
Then, we headed over to Goofy’s Candy Co. for a COMPLETELY different type of drink — the Seasonal Frozen Cocoa for $8.99. This time of year, it’s made with Joffrey’s Frozen Cocoa topped with Mini Marshmallows, Whipped Cream, a Fresh Strawberry, Sprinkles, and a Chocolate Dipped Mickey Marshmallow with Freeze Dried Strawberry Bites. However, ours unfortunately didn’t come with the fresh strawberry, as the location was all out.
This really does taste like frozen hot chocolate, and it’s pretty rich! The whipped cream lightens the flavor a little bit, which we appreciated, but the mini marshmallows did get a little soggy sitting under all that whipped cream. If you’re in the mood for some frozen hot chocolate, it’s a great treat to grab, especially if you’re looking to share.
The Mickey marshmallow was decently tasty, but we couldn’t taste the freeze-dried strawberries on it at all — they only added some texture. It’ll be a hit with kids or for those who really love marshmallows, but it didn’t totally knock our socks off.
