If you’ve been to Orlando International Airport (MCO) recently, you may have noticed a few issues.
Maybe it was harder than you expected to find a parking spot, you noticed how much more advanced Terminal C is in comparison to Terminals A and B, or you’re noticing just how dated some of the technology and decor is. Some of that is about to change, though, thanks to the upgrades and plans MCO has over the next few years. It looks like it’ll all go through, too, because $550 million has just been approved to fund projects for the next three years.
The Orlando Business Journal has reported that the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) board has unanimously approved $550 million to be used to fund Orlando Airport’s various projects over the next three years. However, the “$550 million line of credit is interim funding until the board votes to issue a long-term bond.”
Before it can officially be approved for use, the budget will now go before Orlando’s City Council. What exactly is this money to be used for, though? According to documents, just a few of the projects this budget would work on would be:
- Designing and building Terminal C’s planned aircraft taxiway expansions
- Improving terminal infrastructure (examples include ticket counters, curbside check-in areas, baggage handling systems, etc.)
- Expanding and improving food options available around the airport
- Building elevated covered walkways to connect parking garages and terminals
- Building new facilities and/or expanding existing ones for supporting back-of-house operations (such as”disposing airline waste” and “maintaining and repairing vehicles”)
- Developing airport properties, such as building a new customer pick-up area
Don’t forget that a 10-year plan to completely transform both Orlando International Airport and the Orlando Executive Airport is currently in effect. That plan was approved in the fall of 2025 and is a $5.9 billion capital improvement plan. Currently, Orlando Airport is working on adding 8,000 more parking spaces across Terminals A and C, and the parking guidance system inside the garages is set to be complete by 2027.
