Even more news on Magic Kingdom‘s expansions dropped this week! If you read our update from Valentine’s Day, then you’ll know that the area is already flat and level.
They’ve already started on the foundations of some small structures, but we have some new permit approvals that reveal more about upcoming changes. Here’s what we know!
The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District just published its January agenda, which mentions some projects at the House of Mouse. It’s for the North Service Area, a backstage utility center that’s north of the park along Floridian Place Road.
This area will have a massive $6,750,000 electrical extension. The budget includes allowances for RCES design and support services ($1,000,000), professional services ($750,000), and Owner Furnished Materials ($5,000,000), plus a 10% contingency for unforeseen issues.
The project will expand the electrical area to meet Reedy Creek Energy Services’ increased load requirements. They’ll install new underground electric cables from their existing system to the electric service yard that will serve Disney. Also included is the installation of protective switches and pad-mounted transformers within the electric service yards to supply power to Disney.
To fund the electrical expansion, Disney and Reedy Creek Energy Services are taking out Utility Revenue Bonds, and the rest will be paid with an advance payment. They’re already investing a lot in these new areas!
The upcoming Magic Kingdom expansion will include the Cars land, Piston Peak, and a Villains land. These two new areas will have at least four new rides, two new shops, two new restrooms, and one new restaurant. But that’s just what we know about – there could be even more!
Disney will need a lot of power for these new projects. We’re so excited to see what else Disney has in store for Magic Kingdom. Stay tuned to Disney Food Blog for more construction updates!
