While construction is rampant across Walt Disney World in 2026 — with major projects at both the Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios — arguably no Disney World park is being affected more than Animal Kingdom.
With DINOSAUR –– and all of DinoLand U.S.A. — shuttered for good, and Tropical Americas (including its Indiana Jones and Encanto attractions) still some time away, Disney World’s youngest theme park is in a state of transition right now, and guests are changing their visiting habits accordingly.
Instead of Rope Dropping, Visit During the Second Half of the Day
The phrase “half-day park” has been thrown around a lot recently when it comes to the current state of Animal Kingdom. While that’s debatable, even if one sees the park that way, it doesn’t mean it needs to be the first half of the day. Instead, if you plan on hitting only one park for the day, you can enjoy hitting Animal Kingdom later in the day, maybe after spending some time by the hotel pool or grabbing a brunch/lunch at Disney Springs.
As the park tends to somewhat empty out by 2:00 PM, you can spend a leisurely afternoon at the park dealing with fewer crowds.
Don’t Spend on Lightning Lanes (Unless You’re in a MAJOR Rush)
This one may be a bit controversial, but if you’re planning on heading to Animal Kingdom for a full day, there’s really no need to purchase Lightning Lanes, as, to be blunt, there are so few rides to ride that you’ll have time to wait for all of them. Now, one caveat: If your plan is to hit the park, ride the rides, and move on to another park by the second half of the day, it may be worth it. The best part about buying Lightning Lanes for Animal Kingdom is that it’s the cheapest option. So you won’t be paying as much and you can still use it at Magic Kingdom when you hop!
Take Advantage of Table Service Restaurant Options
With ride options limited, you can experience some of the park’s other offerings. For example, there are table service restaurant options like Tusker House and Tiffin’s.
These eateries don’t usually get the same amount of attention as others around the resort, but we love them, and it would be nice for more guests to experience them.
Put the Focus on the Animals
While Disney has spent over 25 years trying to convince guests that Animal Kingdom is not a zoo (or “Nahtazu” if you’re like me and that commercial campaign has been jammed into your head since 2002), the current state of the park does lean towards treating it as one. No,w to be clear, the park is much more than that, offering intricately themed environments and massive E-Ticket attractions like Flight of Passage and Expedition Everest. However, in its current state, it makes sense for guests to indulge in the park’s animal attractions like Kilimanjaro Safaris.
While Animal Kingdom might be a compromised park right now, following these rules will make the best of a day at the park in 2026. Stay tuned to DFB for more on Disney World in 2026.
