EPCOT never fails to provide us with some absolutely golden moments of confusion.
We spend a LOT of time wandering around World Showcase and World Discovery, and let me tell you, the things we overhear are pure comedy gold. Some of these questions and statements have lived rent-free in our heads for YEARS, and we just had to share them with you because honestly, we’re still cracking up about them.
“Does This Count as Visiting an Embassy?”
Okay, we get it. The World Showcase pavilions are incredibly immersive, and Disney does an amazing job making each country feel authentic. But no, wandering through the Morocco pavilion while eating a shawarma does not count as international travel, and you definitely cannot get your passport stamped there (though wouldn’t that be cool?).
We’ve heard variations of this question more times than we can count, and while we totally understand the confusion, it makes us giggle every single time. The pavilions are staffed by actual international cast members through the Cultural Representative Program, which adds to the authenticity, but they’re still very much part of a theme park in Central Florida. Sorry to break it to you, but that trip around World Showcase doesn’t qualify you for any frequent flyer miles.
“What’s Inside the Big Golf Ball?”
Listen, we LOVE that Spaceship Earth has become so iconic that people just refer to it as “the big golf ball.” What’s inside is actually one of the best attractions in the entire park! Spaceship Earth takes you through the history of human communication, and it’s honestly a classic that we try to never skip.
But here’s the real kicker: we once overheard someone insist they remembered riding a roller coaster INSIDE Spaceship Earth back in the day. Friends, that never existed. The attraction has always been a slow-moving dark ride, and we’re not sure where this memory came from. Maybe they’re thinking of Test Track or Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster? Either way, there’s never been a coaster in there, and we’re kind of sad about it because that actually sounds awesome.
“We Should Start in Canada”
Oh boy, here we go. The great World Showcase debate: which direction do you walk? We don’t usually get too opinionated about how people choose to experience the parks, but when it comes to drinking around the world, our team has feelings.
A sizable portion of our team will firmly tell you that starting in Mexico is the only correct answer, and they’ll defend this position with their whole chest. Starting in Canada means you’re going backwards, and that’s just chaos. That said, we’ve definitely heard passionate arguments for the Canada start, and honestly, the whole debate is hilarious to us. There’s no actual wrong answer (even though some on our team would disagree), but watching people get genuinely heated about which direction to walk around a lake is peak Disney adult behavior, and we’re here for it.
At the end of the day, EPCOT is a park full of big ideas, iconic landmarks, and some absolutely unhinged overheard conversations. If you ever feel unsure about something you say there, just know you are contributing to the magic. And honestly, we’re probably still laughing about it.

I tend to start in Canada, mainly because in the US we drive, walk and queue on the right. It’s just habit. And I’m usually heading straight for the UK pavilion for the ambience and the French pavilion for Les Halles.
Sitting in France pavilion outside L’Artaisan Des Glaces “Why would people waste money and time going to Europe when they can just come here?” I almost fell off my chair.🪑
The funniest thing I heard, didn’t actually happen at Epcot, but it was a bad spaceship Earth. I was working in the magic kingdom at the time, and this guest kept asking me where the big silver ball was and why they couldn’t see it. Shouldn’t it be in the center I carefully explain to the guest that the big silver ball is at Epcot. Imagine getting yelled at by a guest for explaining to them that the big silver ball they’re looking for a spaceship. Earth is over at Epcot. They refused to believe me that’s why they yelled at me for quite a while. Once they left and nobody else was around, and I just started laughing hysterically. I explained that the castle was here and spaceship. Earth was at Epcot, but they would not believe me.
