Do you ever sit there and wonder about what might have been? Whether it’s you’re glad the thing in question didn’t happen, or you’re reminiscing on how things happened, it’s something a lot of us can relate to.
In this case, information has just come out from Disney that something VERY interesting could have happened in Magic Kingdom park during the large expansion taking place. As it turns out, a Disney Imagineer has confirmed that the possibility of building 1-2 hotels INSIDE Magic Kingdom had been discussed!
According to Florida Politics, back around February 2024, Todd Rimmer, a master-planning executive with Disney Imagineering, spoke in court under oath, and during his time on the stand, mentioned that Disney had been considering building 1 or 2 hotels inside Magic Kingdom as part of the big expansion currently taking place. However, sometime between that February and now, that’s no longer on the table.
How do we know this? Well, in an email statement from Disney after they were asked about potential hotel plans, they wrote, “There are no plans for new hotels as part of the Magic Kingdom expansion. We’re focused on bringing to life all we’ve already announced.” The lands already announced as part of this expansion are Piston Peak and Villains Land.
Rimmer’s deposition in court revealed that Disney was toying with the idea of competing with Universal Orlando’s Grand Helios Hotel, which is located inside Epic Universe. Currently, there are three hotels on the Monorail loop around Magic Kingdom — Disney’s Grand Floridian Hotel & Spa, Disney’s Contemporary Resort, and Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. While they’re certainly close to the hotel, they’re not right on property, which is what Disney was thinking about.
It’s important to note, too, that this conversation happened before Disney had officially announced the expansion to the public, which happened at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in Anaheim in August 2024. If a hotel like this were to be built, it would likely become the most popular in Disney, and also likely the most expensive.

It would be neat to have a hotel like Tokyo DisneySea’s Hotel MiraCosta. I’ve heard that guests at that hotel can wander around the closed park. That probably wouldn’t work here, though. Americans couldn’t be trusted not to do something stupid or destructive.
I won’t hold my breath! Disney loves to dangle the carrot at D23 events but few ever get off the drawing board.
