Walt Disney Imagineering just filed four new Notices of Commencement permits for Hollywood Studios. An NOC is a legal document where anyone starting construction, repairs, or improvements of a high budget has to tell their state government that they’re starting the project. Hollywood Studios is going to get a lot of upgrades this year!
Hollywood Studios is expanding with three new areas – Monsters, Inc land is taking over the former Muppets Courtyard, the Muppets are moving into Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, and the reimagined Animation Courtyard will open as Walt Disney Studios this summer. Here’s everything new with Hollywood Studios’ construction!
The first permit is for signage in the Walt Disney Studios courtyard. Walt Disney Imagineering is installing signage in the area, and from what we can see in the concept art, we have some guesses as to what it’ll be. The signs on the Disney Jr. building are being reused, and there’s only one other sign Disney has shown us. This permit likely includes the Sorcerer Mickey hat sign on the Magic of Disney Animation building, which means the new area is shaping up nicely!
The next permit is also for signage, but this time for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith is open until March 1st, which means construction on the re-themed ride will start almost immediately. If the concept art stays true to reality, we’ll get a repainted guitar marquee and a new Electric Mayhem poster outside the ride. There will likely be new signs inside and outside the ride as well, since the cost is high enough to need a permit.
The final two permits are also for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets. They’re listed for electrical work, which can include audio, video, lighting, and show control systems. We know that they’re redoing the pre-show to feature our favorite Muppets like Kermit, Miss Piggy, and Scooter, so we’re crossing our fingers that all of our Muppet friends are included with the permit.
We’re so excited for all of the new additions to Hollywood Studios. Stay tuned to Disney Food Blog for more Disney news!
