We didn’t mean to become Disney shoe experts…but here we are.

One of our favorite shoes
After thousands of hours walking the parks in every shoe imaginable, we’ve learned one very important truth: not all “good shoes” are actually good Disney shoes. Here’s what really worked, what didn’t, and what we’d pack again in a heartbeat.
At some point, we realized something slightly unhinged about ourselves: we’ve basically turned Disney World into our personal shoe testing lab.
Between rope drops, fireworks, park hopping, hotel changes, festivals, and full-day touring strategies, we’ve easily logged thousands of hours walking the parks in every kind of shoe imaginable — HOKAs, Brooks, Nikes, Skechers, random Walmart sneakers, sandals, and more. And if there’s one thing we’ve learned the hard way, it’s this: Not all “good shoes” are actually good Disney shoes.

These are THE Disney World shoes!
So if you’ve ever stood in a shoe aisle wondering whether that pair will survive 25,000 steps in Florida heat…welcome. You’re our people.
What We Learned the Hard Way About Disney Shoes
Disney walking is its own sport. It’s not a quick jog or a treadmill workout — it’s hours of slow, repetitive walking on concrete, sudden stops for rides, standing in queues, heat, humidity, and sometimes torrential rain just to keep things spicy. Because of that, the shoes that feel fine at Target or on your neighborhood walk can absolutely betray you by 2 PM in EPCOT.
Over time, we learned to judge shoes based on very specific Disney-only criteria. Heel cushioning matters more than anything else because your heel takes the brunt of the impact over a long park day. Stability is non-negotiable thanks to uneven pavement, curbs, ride exits, and random ankle-twisting moments. Breathability becomes critical in Florida humidity because sweaty feet turn into blister factories fast. Water performance matters way more than you think, because wet shoes are basically emotional damage in sneaker form. And finally, the real test isn’t how a shoe feels in the first hour — it’s how it feels after hour six!
That’s where most shoes fail.
The HOKA Reality Check
Let’s talk about HOKAs, because people have opinions.
We tested the HOKA Clifton 10 and Rincon 4 extensively, and yes, the cushioning is incredible! These shoes are cloud-level soft, and if you’re dealing with joint pain, plantar fasciitis, or heel sensitivity, they’re genuinely lifesavers.
But…they are bulky. Especially in the heel. They’re not sleek, they’re not subtle, and if you’re even mildly self-conscious about your feet looking big, you will notice it.
We also learned the hard way that they are not waterproof, which became extremely obvious during surprise downpours in Disney World.
That said, comfort-wise, they’re top tier!
But, we’d recommend for the ultimate catch…
…to just pair them with waterproof shoe covers and call it a day. We have tested these shoe covers, and we promise, they really work. Are they the cutest things in the world? No.
Brooks: The Reliable Overachiever
Brooks shoes ended up being the quiet MVPs of our testing phase.
They don’t get as much TikTok hype as HOKAs, but in real-world Disney use, they were consistently stable, cushioned without feeling squishy, and easier to walk naturally in for long stretches.
They also handled heat better than expected and didn’t trap sweat the way some bulkier shoes do.
If you want something that feels like a “normal shoe but upgraded for Disney punishment,” Brooks is a very solid pick!
The Walmart Shoes Surprise
Now here’s where things get interesting. We tested a few budget athletic shoes from Walmart, fully expecting them to fail spectacularly. But to our surprise, we found a pair that genuinely kind of shocked us.
They weren’t luxury comfort, and they didn’t hold up for back-to-back 12-hour park days.
But they were surprisingly decent for half-days, travel days, or backup shoes if your main pair gets soaked.
If you’re on a budget or need an extra pair to rotate between days, Walmart shoes can absolutely work, just don’t make them your only option!
The Biggest Disney Shoe Truth Nobody Tells You
There is no single perfect Disney shoe. Your ideal shoe depends on your foot shape, your walking style, how long your park days are, whether you’re rope-dropping or casually strolling, your tolerance for bulk versus sleekness, and how much rain you’re willing to gamble with.

Brooks Ghost 17s
The best strategy we’ve landed on is bringing two different pairs and rotating them. Breaking them in before your trip is non-negotiable, though!
Throwing blister patches into your park bag is just smart planning.
And accepting that wet feet will emotionally ruin your day if you’re not prepared will save you a meltdown.
So…What Should You Actually Buy?
If you want our real-world Disney ranking, it’s time to walk you through our superlatives that earned their honors.
The best overall comfort goes to HOKA, the best balance of comfort and stability goes to Brooks, the best budget backup option comes from Walmart athletic sneakers, and the best overall strategy is a two-shoe rotation paired with waterproof covers. We didn’t spend thousands of hours testing shoes on purpose…but since we did, we might as well save you the pain and trust us when we say your feet will thank you for what you’re NOT making them struggle through!

Did anyone test New Balance?
Have you tried the ON brand? I love them and I’m curious to see how they perform during back to back 12 hour park days for you.
Brooks are the sneaker I use. They are a bit wider which make them more comfortable for extensive park walking. Highly recommend.
Food Blog you must have very sensitive feet. Which surprises me because of the all the walking you do,your feet should be very strong. Got the 1/2 day, or short use Walmart shoes and wore them 5+ miles a day for 4 in the row day and they were great. Once I had the 150$ shoes and had blister after 1/2 day, never go back. Walmart shoe fit low budgets and hold up for whole trip and back home.
