Disney Springs is home to NUMEROUS of our favorite dining spots in all of Disney World, and The Polite Pig is normally one of them.
We’ll admit that when we’re in the mood for barbecue, this is often one of the very first spots we think of, but sometimes it doesn’t always impress us. We’ve had a few items here that have fallen flat, but what about one of the BIGGEST offerings they have, the Butcher Board? We tried it out recently to tell you about it in FULL detail so you can know if it’s worth a stop on your next trip!
For $46, you can snag the Butcher Board (For 2) over at The Polite Pig, which comes with Pork Shoulder, Smoked Chicken, Brisket, and BBQ Cheddar Sausage with Slaw, House Pickles, two Cornbreads, and a choice of two Market Sides. You can also add Ribs for $7 or Smoked Turkey for $5.
Before we even dive in, we have to tell you that you’ll 100% want to grab sauces to eat with the meat, as lots of it was on the drier side. Starting out with the Pork, we have to say that this was fairly moist (although definitely recommend some sauce!), and it had a great smoky flavor to it. We enjoyed the varying textures, as it was soft in some parts and then crispy portions from the outside.
The Sausage has a bit of spice to it, so beware of that! You can feel the burn on your tongue, and the spice does build as you continue to chew, so make sure you’ve got some water nearby. It has a great snap to the shell, and the inside is soft and juicy, so this was a win in our book.
Unfortunately, our Brisket wasn’t the best. It was fairly fatty, but also on the drier and chewier side. It had a good smokiness to it, but you will definitely want some sauce for this to help with that chew.
The final meat on the platter for us was the Smoked Chicken, which was extra juicy and had a bit of a kick to it (but not over the top) due to being well seasoned. It was a bit difficult to cut since it’s bone-in, but worth the work.
We wish we had enjoyed the Cornbread more, but it was pretty dry. They did have a good amount of cornmeal flavor, and are on the sweeter side, but we just found them hard to chew and swallow, being as dry as they were.
Our Corn on the Cob was pretty solid! The corn kernels were tender and sweet, and we really enjoyed the chipotle aioli and crisp breadcrumbs it was topped with. The aioli is creamy and has a small kick, but again, it’s nothing too wild.
Our Coleslaw had a nice crunch to it, thanks to the vegetables being fresh, and it has a creamy, thin dressing on it that’s a bit on the vinegary side. If you like sweeter coleslaws, this may not be your thing, but we enjoyed it!
Finally, we have the Sweet Potato Tots, which may have been our favorite thing on the plate! They had plenty of sweet potato flavor and were fairly crispy on the outside and very soft and moist on the inside. It’s topped with Parmesan cheese that adds a bit of savoriness and nuttiness, and while there’s parsley on top as well, you don’t taste it much. Some of them were more soggy, just like sweet potato fries often are, but we were still big fans!
Overall, we think this is a solid meal for more than one person as long as you grab those sauces, but did it completely blow our socks off? Not necessarily, which makes us a little sad, so if you’re looking for a meal that really won’t let you down and you’ll leave raving about, this may not be the best choice. We still love The Polite Pig, don’t get us wrong, but some items are more solid than others! And hey, if you’re always looking for opportunities to use more dipping sauces like we are, you’ll love the chance to try a bunch of different sauces with different proteins.
